OBJECTIVES Training and assessment of proper skills in flexible bronchoscopy are major educational goals for cardiothoracic residents. In this contribution we describe a research aimed at pointing out the quality of mental models undergraduate engineering students deploy when asked to create explanations for phenomena/processes and/or use a given model in the same context. Student responses to a specially designed written questionnaire are initially analyzed using researcher-generated categories of reasoning, based on the Physics Education Research literature on student understanding of the relevant physics content. Instruction-based clinical eye-tracking study on the visual interpretation of divergence : how do students look at vector field plots?

Relating mathematical concepts to graphical representations is a challenging task for students. In this paper, we introduce two visual strategies to qualitatively interpret the divergence of graphical vector field representations. One strategy is based on the graphical interpretation of partial derivatives, while the other is based on the flux concept. We test the effectiveness of both strategies in an instruction-based eye-tracking study with N = 41 physics majors. The Effects of Using High-Fidelity Simulation in Undergraduate Nursing Education: A Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial with a Process Evaluation

Abstract The overall aim of this study was to examine the effects of a high-fidelity simulation on the knowledge and self-confidence of a total of 177 undergraduate nursing students in recognizing and responding to hypovolemia. A randomized experimental pre- and post-test research design with a process evaluation was employed. A significantly larger proportion of students in the intervention group than in the control group increased the number of correct responses in their knowledge and levels of self-confidence postintervention. As enablers for the successful implementation of the intervention, a need for a safe environment, fidelity, and learning in different roles were identified.
