Tiivistelmä – Abstract Maisterintutkielmani aiheena on nepalilainen naamiotanssiryhmä, dyo khala. Esittelen ryhmän jäsenet ja tehtävät sekä pohdin minkälaiset ovat dyo khalan tulevaisuuden näkymät. Tutkimuskysymyksinäni minulla ovat ”minkälainen on dyo khalan rakenne ja mitä sen ydintoimintaan kuuluu” sekä ”miten dyo khalan jäsenet kokevat ryhmän jatkuvuuden suhteessa nykyajan haasteisiin.” Naamiotanssiryhmiä on tutkittu vähän, eikä kunnollista selvitystä ryhmän rakenteesta ole tehty. The Ka’ulayawaa festivals among the Wayùu. Exploring continuities and variations in forms, meanings and contexts through ethnographic sources

In this paper I review and compare the main sources of information about the ka’ulayawaa festivals among the Wayùu, an Amerindian people inhabiting in the semiarid Guajira peninsula (Northern Colombia and Venezuela). For their peculiar mix of songs, dances, imitative plays and competitive games, inserted into a same festive framework, these festivals are particularly interesting to be studied as expressive metacommentaries (in the sense of Turner) of Wayùu social structures, cultural values and worldview. Fondata alla fine del V sec. a.C. dai Cartaginesi, Thermae Himeraeae divenne colonia romana alla fine del I sec. a.C. e fu dotata degli edifici tipici di una città romana: foro, anfiteatro, acquedotto e bagni. Questi ultimi furono costruiti ai piedi della collina su cui sorge la città, sfruttando due sorgenti termali. In this article, I shall examine how the personal names of the Finnish-speaking population of rural Finland, who themselves were generally unable to write, were written in Swedish equivalents in various documents in the 18th and 19th centuries, and how this influenced the formation of their identities. The advent of laws governing language towards the end of the 19th and in the early 20th century was manifested in official documents in which the authorities gradually started to write personal names in Finnish. A method for measuring wetting and swelling of bentonite using X-ray imaging

A non-invasive method based on X-ray imaging for measuring deformation and water transport in wetting and swelling bentonite samples is introduced. Sequential X-ray images taken of the samples were used to calculate the attenuation coefficient and deformation. These results, together with careful calibration, allowed finding the dry density and water content distributions and their temporal evolution in the wetting and swelling samples. A specific correction technique, based on regularly taking reference X-ray images of aluminum plates of varying thickness, was developed and used to take into account X-ray beam instabilities and thus to improve the accuracy of density analysis.
