Phase transitions in adsorbed (two dimensional) fluids and in adsorbed layers of molecules are studied with a combination of path integral Monte Carlo (PIMC), Gibbs ensemble Monte Carlo (GEMC) and finite size scaling techniques. Entropy driven phase transitions in systems with purely repulsive interactions are analyzed as well phase diagrams of fluids with internal quantum states. Monte Carlo Simulation of Alloy Phase Diagrams and Short-Range Order

As a prototype model for order-disorder phenomena in binary alloys, a face-centered cubic lattice is considered,the sites of which can be taken by either A-atoms or B-atoms, assuming pair-wise interactions between nearest (J) and next nearest neighbours (J). The phase diagram is constructed from Monte Carlo calculations. Some technical aspects essential for the success of such calculations are briefly mentioned (use of grand-canonical rather than canonical ensemble, how to obtain the free energy needed to locate first-order phase transitions, etc.). In this paper we examine the feasibility of data from unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-borne aerial imagery in stand-level forest inventory. Midgut pseudotumors and the maintenance of tissue homeostasis: studies on aging and manipulated stick insects.

Stick insects (Carausius morosus) develop pseudotumors in aging adults. Pseudotumor formation starts at the M2 midgut region where an accumulation of stomatogastric nerve terminals is observed. Pseudotumors arise from dying columnar cells whose basal parts form an “amorphous substance” at the basement membrane whereas the apical parts, including the nucleus, are expelled into the gut lumen. The “amorphous substance” is ensheathed by hemocytes. These nodules, which do not melanize, characterize the phenotype of the pseudotumors. With age, cell death and pseudotumor infestation increases. In the present study, the chronic cumulative exposure to organophosphorus (OPs), carbamates (CBs) and pyrethroid and pyrethrin (PPs) pesticides in the region of Valencia through fruit and vegetables consumption is presented. A total of 752 samples and 84 pesticides were studied of which, 52 were OPs, 23 CBs and 9 PPs. Residue data were derived from the Valencia Region monitoring program 2007-2011 and food consumption levels from a questionnaire-based dietary survey conducted in 2010 in the same area.
