Shear Induced Demixing and Rheological Behavior of Aqueous Solutions of Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)
2003
The interrelation between the phase separation behavior and the rheological performance of aqueous solutions of high molecular weight (M w = 1 600 kg/mol) poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) was investigated. The system demixes upon heating and the cloud point temperature, T cp decreases steadily with rising polymer concentration up to 10 wt.-%. The application of shear supports phase separation and reduces T cp markedly. This observation is interpreted in terms of destruction of intersegmental clusters formed in the quiescent state owing to favorable interactions. Intrinsic viscosities and Huggins coefficients as well as the viscosities, η at higher polymer concentrations are closely connected wit…
Ionic partition diagram of tetraphenylporphyrin at the water|1,2-dichloroethane interface
2011
diagram of 5,10,15,20-tetraphenyl-21H,23H-porphine (H2TPP) at the water|1,2-dichloroethane interface using a simple Born solvation model. This zone diagram shows under which form this porphyrin is present, i.e. neutral, monoprotonated or diprotonated, and in which phase i.e. either in the aqueous or the organic phase as a function of the aqueous pH and the interface polarisation that can be controlled externally or by the distribution of supporting electrolytes. This diagram explains why the monoprotonated form has been difficult to observe when doing biphasic pH titrations
Crystalline multilayers of charged colloids in soft confinement: experiment versus theory.
2012
We combine real-space experiments and lattice sum calculations to investigate the phase diagram of charged colloidal particles under soft confinement. In the experiments we explore the equilibrium phase diagram of charged colloidal spheres in aqueous suspensions confined between two parallel charged walls at low background salt concentrations. Motivated by the experiments, we perform lattice sum minimizations to predict the crystalline ground state of point-like Yukawa particles which are exposed to a soft confining wall potential. In the multilayered crystalline regime, we obtain good agreement between the experimental and numerical findings: upon increasing the density we recover the sequ…

External labeling and algorithms for hierarchic networks
1988
Algorithms for generating internal data structures for networks are given. Data bases for networks can be partitioned hierarchically. Nodes of lower class networks may also be in the interior of a higher class arc which will be split if it is included into the final network. Naming is based either on nodes or on arcs.
A comparison of two different formulations for Arc Routing Problems on Mixed graphs
2006
[EN] Arc routing problems on mixed graphs have been modelled in the literature either using just one variable per edge or associating to each edge two variables, each one representing its traversal in the corresponding direction. In this paper, and using the mixed general routing problem as an example, we compare theoretical and computationally both formulations as well as the lower bounds obtained from them using Linear Programming based methods. Extensive computational experiments, including some big and newly generated random instances, are presented.
