Conditional Random Quantities and Compounds of Conditionals

2013

In this paper we consider finite conditional random quantities and conditional previsions assessments in the setting of coherence. We use a suitable representation for conditional random quantities; in particular the indicator of a conditional event $E|H$ is looked at as a three-valued quantity with values 1, or 0, or $p$, where $p$ is the probability of $E|H$. We introduce a notion of iterated conditional random quantity of the form $(X|H)|K$ defined as a suitable conditional random quantity, which coincides with $X|HK$ when $H \subseteq K$. Based on a recent paper by S. Kaufmann, we introduce a notion of conjunction of two conditional events and then we analyze it in the setting of cohere…

The monadic quantifier alternation hierarchy over grids and pictures

1998

The subject of this paper is the expressive power of monadic second-order logic over two-dimensional grids. We give a new, self-contained game-theoretical proof of the nonexpressibility results of Matz and Thomas. As we show, this implies the strictness of the monadic second-order quantifier alternation hierarchy over grids.

Más allá del museo. Nuevos escenarios para la exposición

2018

[EN] Exhibition's stage has become a changing exercise over time, linked to a way of thinking historically the work. There are new museographic responses born of the participation of artists, architects and designers, and the role of the curator who, at times, transforms his role as theoretician in artist. Following this evolutionary dynamic, the exhibition has thus forged an almost independent identity of the museum itself. The meaning of the work in the place develops a new grammar that turns the exhibition into a work of art and also opens a debate around its current role

XML document-grammar comparison: related problems and applications

2011

10.2478/s13537-011-0005-1; International audience; XML document comparison is becoming an ever more popular research issue due to the increasingly abundant use of XML. Likewise, a growing interest fosters the development of XML grammar matching and comparison, due to the proliferation of heterogeneous XML data sources, particularly on the Web. Nonetheless, the process of comparing XML documents with XML grammars, i.e., XML document and grammar similarity evaluation, has not yet received the attention it deserves. In this paper, we provide an overview on existing research related to XML document/grammar comparison, presenting the background and discussing the various techniques related to th…

Searching for Syntax in the Early Medieval Commentaries on Donatus

2023

This study aims at contributing to the reconstruction of the metalanguage and the specific terminology used by grammarians with reference to the reflection on syntax, as it emerges from the analysis of Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages grammar texts. The study focuses on the description of prepositions within the commentaries on Donatus’s Artes. Despite the overall lack of a systematic treatment of syntax within the Greek-Latin grammatical tradition, the description of specific partes orationis, e.g. praepositio, shows actually traces of a certain reflection on syntax. The metaterminology used by grammarians to describe the mutual relation between linguistic elements seems to go even bey…

The effects of training on the grammar of preschool children

1974

The acquisition of morphological and syntactic rules of language during early childhood has been the object of intensive study in many languages during the last few years. As regards English, some surveys have already been published on the results (McNeill, 1970; Slobin, 1971). Research on the acquisition of morphological and syntactic patterns has been influenced on the one hand by psycholinguistics, on the other by the psychology of learning. This duality of starting points manifests itself also in the way of presenting problems and in the interpretation of results. One of the methodological difficulties when studying the acquisition of grammar was for a long time how to separate those la…

The identification of social economy companies in Spain. Legal problems

2018

Unawareness and Partitional Information Structures

1999

Abstract We claim first that simple uncertainty is not an adequate model of a subject's ignorance, because a major component of it is the inability to give a complete description of the states of the world, and we provide a formal model of unawareness. In Modica and Rustichini (1994) we showed a difficulty in the project, namely that without weakening of the inference rules of the logic one would face the unpleasant alternative between full awareness and full unawareness. In this paper we study a logical system where non full awareness is possible, and prove that a satisfactory solution to the problem can be found by introducing limited reasoning ability of the subject. A determination theo…

Where is meaning going? Semantic Potentials and Enactive Grammars

2018

The paper tries to explicate the relationship between two fundamental concepts of the theoretical research in cognitive linguistics: semantic potentials and enactive grammars. It is divided into three parts. The first one introduces the notion of semantic potential. In the second part, we examine the notion of enaction with particular reference to its applications in the theoretical framework of linguistic reflexion. In the last one, you can find a detailed analysis of some theoretical topics that are at the center of the actual debate.

Entrepreneurial self-identity, perceived corruption, exogenous and endogenous obstacles as antecedents of entrepreneurial intention in Italy

2019

Although entrepreneurship is considered one of the most powerful drivers of national economies around the world, there is little consensus about what informal factors foster entrepreneurial intention. In accordance with recent literature, entrepreneurial self-identity perception, the perception of corruption in the entrepreneurship ecosystem, and perceived exogenous and endogenous obstacles to entrepreneurship were hypothesized as antecedents of college students&rsquo
