Generation of Bessel beam arrays through Dammann gratings.

2012

In this work we apply the Dammann grating concept to generate an equal-intensity square array of Bessel quasi-free diffraction beams that diverge from a common center. We generate a binary phase mask that combines the axicon phase with the phase of a Dammann grating. The procedure can be extended to include vortex spiral phases that generate an array of optical pipes. Experimental results are provided by means of a twisted nematic liquid crystal display operating as a binary π phase spatial light modulator.

Holographic recording optimization in amorphous As-Se-S films

2003

The holographic recording parameters of amorphous chalcogenide semiconductor (AChS) thin films under optimization depend on hologram type. So, using self-enhancement effect during recording and wet etching after recording enable possibility to decrease recording energy and increase of signal/noise ratio for embossed holograms. Choosing the appropriate light exposure permit us to achieve equal values of diffraction efficiency (DE) for different diffraction orders during fabrication of light splitting holographic optical elements (HOE). Changing film thickness and recording wavelength it is possible to find optimal conditions for high DE holographic gratings readable at infrared region of lig…

Photodiffraction in InGaAs/InGaAsP multiple quantum wells enclosed in a microcavity

1997

Abstract We report new results on the diffraction properties of photoinduced gratings in InGaAs/InGaAsP MQW structures. The original feature of this device is that the QWs are enclosed in an asymmetric Fabry–Perot microcavity in order to increase the diffraction efficiency. We observe oscillations in the diffraction efficiency due to resonant effects in the microcavity. The experimental spectra are compared with theory. Diffraction efficiency at 1.55 μm attains a maximum value of 2.7% at a write beam fluence of 260 μ J cm −2 , and then decreases at higher fluences. We explain this phenomenon by an absorption saturation at high excitation.

Ultraviolet holographic recording in photopolymers

2011

Norland Optical Adhesive (NOA) acrylate based photopolymers were studied as a medium for Bragg grating fabrication. NOA photopolymers have absorption maximum in near UV region, but they are transparent in visible light region. Photopolymers were irradiated by He-Cd laser 325 nm line interference patterns during holographic recording. In light irradiated regions photopolymerization takes place and volume grating can be recorded. Diffraction efficiency in dependence on sample thickness, recording beams polarization state and intensity was investigated on transmission mode. Enlargement of sample thickness allows to achieve better angular selectivity of diffracted beam, therefore thickness of p…

<title>Hologram recording in azobenzene oligomers</title>

2003

Elementary hologram (holographic grating) recording and their coherent optical erasure have been experimentally studied in azobenzene oligomer (ABO) layers differing by their chemical composition, matrices and by the connection type of azobenzene chromophores to the matrix (dispersed or covalently bound). The best holographic parameters (7.9% diffraction efficiency and 86 J/cm2 specific recording energy) were achieved in the samples with covalent bonding to the matrix. Vector recording is also possible. Recording is unstable and reversible. The coherent optical erasure studies have shown its efficiency dependencies on the initial diffraction efficiency, erasing beam intensity and grating pe…

<title>Sub-bandgap light hologram recording in amorphous chalcogenides</title>

2006

Sub-bandgap light recording (SBLR) of holograms is studied basing on the experiments in a-As2S3 films and literature data. Holographic grating recording with focused (light intensity I = 14 - 124 W/cm2 ) and unfocused (I = 0.50 - 0.78 W/cm2) 632.8 nm He-Ne laser sub-bandgap light in non-annealed and annealed a-As2S3 films has been experimentally studied. The focused light recording is found to be much more efficient (diffraction efficiency up to 14.9%, specific recording energy down to 216 J/(cm2%)) than the unfocused light recording (0.11%, 72400 J/(cm2%)). Some other properties are also different. The focused light recording is explained by the photothermally stimulated relaxational struc…

Soret Effect In Forced Rayleigh-scattering

1987

In forced Rayleigh scattering of mixtures or suspensions the temperature gratings generate, by the Soret effect, concentration gratings that may be very important since they produce both a phase and an amplitude grating superimposed on the principal one. The experimental evidence of their influence was given by Thyagarajan and Lallemand using a mixture of carbondisulfide and ethanol. In this paper we study the temporal behaviour of the concentration grating versus the sample properties and its effect on the detected diffracted beam. Explicit expressions are given for the output intensity taking into account both the generated amplitude and phase gratings.

<title>Holographic recording in amorphous chalcogenide semiconductor photoresists</title>

1998

The properties and mechanism of relaxation processes of holographic gratings in amorphous chalcogenide semiconductor films have been studied. The possibilities of the practical applications of these materials as the photoresists for the production of the relief holograms and holographic optical elements are discussed. It is shown that the self- enhancement phenomenon of holographic recording in amorphous chalcogenide semiconductor films by light or thermal treatment can be used to increase the diffraction efficiency of the holograms.© (1998) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering. <title>Angular selectivity of thin gratings</title>

2005

The angular selectivity of thin gratings is studied both experimentally and theoretically. The concepts of thick and thin gratings are analyzed. Thin holographic gratings recorded in a-As-S-Se films have exhibited pronounced and oscillatory diffraction efficiency angular dependences. These results are explained by the obliquity factor in Fresnel-Kirchhof diffraction integral and by finite beam and grating sizes. It is also shown that oscillatory diffraction efficiency angular dependences, most probably, arise due to the interference of diffracted waves of different orders because dephasing can be significant for small grating strengths and large enough readout angles. Fabry-Perot resonator …

Holographic recording of surface relief gratings in tolyle-based azobenzene oligomers

2008

Abstract Holographic recording of surface relief gratings (SRG) in tolyle-based azobenzene oligomer films have been carried out at 514.5 nm. It was experimentally studied by spectroscopic and AFM methods. The maximum surface modulation amplitude was 35 nm. SRG formation is explained by the mean-field model and by the photodegradation of chromophores enabling the directional mass transport as the result of trans–cis transformations. The conclusion is made that SRG are stable but the diffraction efficiency (DE) changes are due to the complementary decaying amplitude-phase gratings. Strong polarization dependences of transmitted and reflected DE are found. They are explained by the diffraction…
