Full configuration interaction calculation of BeH adiabatic states.

An all-electron full configuration interaction (FCI) calculation of the adiabatic potential energy curves of some of the lower states of BeH molecule is presented. A moderately large ANO basis set of atomic natural orbitals (ANO) augmented with Rydberg functions has been used in order to describe the valence and Rydberg states and their interactions. The Rydberg set of ANOs has been placed on the Be at all bond distances. So, the basis set can be described as 4s3p2d1f3s2p1d(BeH)+4s4p2d(Be). The dipole moments of several states and transition dipole strengths from the ground state are also reported as a function of the R(Be-H) distance. The nonadiabatic photochemistry of 6-azauracil has been studied by means of the CASPT2//CASSCF protocol and double-ζ plus polarization ANO basis sets. Minimum energy states, transition states, minimum energy paths, and surface intersections have been computed in order to obtain an accurate description of several potential energy hypersurfaces. It is concluded that, after absorption of ultraviolet radiation (248 nm), two main relaxation mechanisms may occur, via which the lowest (3)(ππ*) state can be populated. Abstract The electronic properties and transition properties have been investigated for the lowest singlet electronic states of benzene using coupled cluster response theory. The polarizabilities have been calculated for the ground state and the 1 1 B 2u , 1 1 B 1u 1 1 E 1u and 2 1 E 1u excited states. The dipole allowed transitions out of these states have also been calculated and discussed in the context of the calculated polarizabilities. Abstract A new effective Hamiltonian is reported for the kinetic exchange between two arbitrary terms 2S A +1 Λ A and 2S B +1 Λ B that can be ground or excited in octahedrally coordinated transition metal ions. This Hamiltonian is applicable to both homo- and heterometallic clusters. For the homonuclear cluster the resonance part of the effective Hamiltonian is also presented for the case when one of the ions is excited. The operator part of the exchange Hamiltonian contains symmetry adapted products of the cubic irreducible tensors acting in orbital spaces ΛA and ΛB and scalar product of site spin operators. Abstract The electronic structure of a neutral, a radical anion, and a dianion carborane dimer connected via an acetylenic bridge unit (HB) 11 C C C C(BH) 11 is analyzed by quantum chemical methods. Geometries, relative stabilities, and singlet–triplet gaps are determined in the neutral and dianion species for the lowest-lying singlet and triplet states and for the doublet ground state in the radical anion. The main intrinsic photochemical events in nucleobases can be described on theoretical grounds within the realm of non-adiabatic computational photochemistry. Spectroscopic consequences of varying the twist angle of the amino group in aminobenzonitrile systems in the electronic ground state are investigated by applying electron energy loss (EEL) spectroscopy and density functional theory to 4-N,N-dimethylaminobenzonitrile (DMABN), 4-N,N-dimethylamino-3,5-dimethylbenzonitrile (MMD), benzoquinuclidine (BQ), and 6-cyanobenzoquinuclidine (CBQ). Our experiments and calculations reveal a set of anomalous and interesting properties of coumarin 7 (CU7) and coumarin 30 (CU30) in solution. The spectral dependence of electro-optical coefficients and, consequently, dipole moments indicates that the absorption band is a superposition of several (at least two) electronic transitions. Probably, there are two close-lying π,π* singlet electronic excited states which contribute to the first absorption band. The calculations using the MM2 program show that both dyes in the ground state have two stable plane anti conformers. Abstract The results from electrooptical absorption measurements (EOAM) on the ground and excited Franck–Condon state dipole moments of Prodan and Laurdan in 1,4-dioxane and cyclohexane are presented. The ground and excited Franck–Condon state electric dipole moments as well as the respective transition moment of both probes are parallel. The electric dipole moments of Prodan and Laurdan in the ground state in cyclohexane and 1,4-dioxane have values within the range (15.7–16.5) × 10 −30 C m. On optical excitation the dipole moments increase by (42.1–49.5) × 10 −30 C m. The obtained results are compared with the values of the dipole moments of Prodan and Laurdan determined by other methods.

The ground-state properties of the tetranuclear Co2+ cluster [Co4(H2O)2(PW9O34)2]10- were investigated by combining specific heat, magnetic susceptibility, and magnetization measurements with a detailed inelastic neutron scattering (INS) study on a fully deuterated sample of K10[Co4(H2O)2(PW9O34)2]·22H2O. As a result of the single ion anisotropy of the octahedral Co2+, the appropriate exchange Hamiltonian of the Co4 spin cluster is anisotropic. INS turns out to be essential for the determination of energy splittings in the ground state resulting from the coupling.
