Stability of hexaquarks in the string limit of confinement

2011

The stability of systems containing six quarks or antiquarks is studied within a simple string model inspired by the strong-coupling regime of quantum chromodynamics and used previously for tetraquarks and pentaquarks. We discuss both six-quark $(q^6)$ and three-quark--three-antiquark $ (q^3\bar q{}^3)$ states. The quarks are assumed to be distinguishable and thus not submitted to antisymmetrization. It is found that the ground state of $(q^6)$ is stable against dissociation into two isolated baryons. For the case of $ (q^3\bar q{}^3)$, our results indicate the existence of a bound state very close to the threshold. The investigations are extended to $(q^3Q^3)$ and $(Q^3\bar q^3)$ systems w…

Hall–Post inequalities: Review and application to molecules and tetraquarks

2019

A review is presented of the Hall–Post inequalities that give lower-bounds to the ground-state energy of quantum systems in terms of energies of smaller systems. New applications are given for systems experiencing both a static source and inner interactions, as well as for hydrogen-like molecules and for tetraquarks in some quark models. In the latter case, the Hall–Post inequalities constrain the possibility of deeply-bound exotic mesons below the threshold for dissociation into two quark–antiquark mesons. We also emphasize the usefulness of the Hall–Post bounds in terms of 3-body energies when some 2-body subsystems are ill defined or do not support any bound state.

Neutrino Mass Ordering from Oscillations and Beyond: 2018 Status and Future Prospects

2018

The ordering of the neutrino masses is a crucial input for a deep understanding of flavor physics, and its determination may provide the key to establish the relationship among the lepton masses and mixings and their analogous properties in the quark sector. The extraction of the neutrino mass ordering is a data-driven field expected to evolve very rapidly in the next decade. In this review, we both analyze the present status and describe the physics of subsequent prospects. Firstly, the different current available tools to measure the neutrino mass ordering are described. Namely, reactor, long-baseline (accelerator and atmospheric) neutrino beams, laboratory searches for beta and neutrinol…

New method for determining the quark-gluon vertex

2014

We present a novel nonperturbative approach for calculating the form factors of the quark-gluon vertex, in a general covariant gauge. The key ingredient of this method is the exact all-order relation connecting the conventional quark-gluon vertex with the corresponding vertex of the background field method, which is Abelian-like. When this latter relation is combined with the standard gauge technique, supplemented by a crucial set of transverse Ward identities, it allows the approximate determination of the nonperturbative behavior of all twelve form factors comprising the quark-gluon vertex, for arbitrary values of the momenta. The actual implementation of this procedure is carried out in …

Heavy Baryons and electromagnetic decays

2000

In this talk I review the theory of electromagnetic decays of the ground state baryon multiplets with oneheavy quark, calculated using Heavy Hadron Chiral Perturbation Theory. The M1 and E2 amplitudes for (S^{*}-> S gamma), (S^{*} -> T gamma) and (S -> T gamma)are separately analyzed. All M1 transitions are calculated up to O(1/_^2). The E2 amplitudes contribute at the same order for (S^{*}-> S gamma), while for (S^{*} -> T gamma) they first appear at O(1/(m_Q _^2))and for (S -> T gamma) are completely negligible. Once the loop contributions is considered, relations among different decay amplitudes are derived. Furthermore, one can obtain an absolute prediction for…

Parton polarization and constituent quarks

1995

Abstract A systematic study of the polarized-parton distributions is presented and related to the properties of the constituent quarks. The effects of breaking SU(6) symmetry are emphasized and the Isgur-Karl constituent model is discussed in detail. The results on the proton, neutron and deuteron structure functions are compared with the recent experimental data, and the role of the gluon polarization is pointed out. The role of the D-state admixture in the nucleon ground state is also investigated.

Confined quarks and the neutrinoless ββ decay

1990

Abstract The half life of the neutrinoless double beta decay of 76Ge into the ground state of 76Se is calculated in a relativistic quark confinement model. The neutron-proton quasi-particle random phase approximation is used to evaluate the nuclear matrix elements involved in the decay amplitude. We avoid the closure approximation, but compare our results with this approximation. From the experimental half life we deduce an upper limit for the Majorana mass of the neutrino and estimate the right-handed contribution to the charged weak current.

Semi-inclusive deep inelastic lepton scattering off complex nuclei

1999

It is shown that in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (DIS) of electrons off a complex nucleus A, the detection, in coincidence with the scattered electron, of a nucleus (A-1) in the ground state, as well as of a nucleon and a nucleus (A-2), also in the ground state, may provide unique information on several long standing problems, such as : i) the nature and the relevance of the final state interaction in DIS; ii) validity of the spectator mechanism in DIS; iii) the medium induced modifications of the nucleon structure function; iv) the origin of the EMC effect.

Role of the Δ Resonance in the Population of a Four-Nucleon State in the Fe56→Fe54 Reaction at Relativistic Energies

2016

The 54Fe nucleus was populated from a 56Fe beam impinging on a Be target with an energy of E=A ¼ 500 MeV. The internal decay via γ-ray emission of the 10þ metastable state was observed. As the structure of this isomeric state has to involve at least four unpaired nucleons, it cannot be populated in a simple two-neutron removal reaction from the 56Fe ground state. The isomeric state was produced in the low-momentum (-energy) tail of the parallel momentum (energy) distribution of 54Fe, suggesting that it was populated via the decay of the Δ0 resonance into a proton. This process allows the population of fournucleon states, such as the observed isomer. Therefore, it is concluded that the obser…

Exclusive c → s, d Semileptonic Decays of Spin-1/2 and Spin-3/2 cb Baryons

2013

We present results for exclusive semileptonic decay widths of ground state spin-$1/2$ and spin-$3/2$ $cb$ baryons corresponding to a $c\to s, d$ transition at the quark level. The relevance of hyperfine mixing in spin-1/2 $cb$ baryons is shown. Our form factors are compatible with heavy quark spin symmetry constraints obtained in the infinite heavy quark mass limit.
