Adolescents' future education-related personal goals, concerns, and internal motivation during the “Towards Working Life” group intervention

2010

For adolescents, the transition from comprehensive school to post-comprehensive education is one of the most important in this life phase. Future education-related personal goals, concerns, and related internal motivation are assumed to play key roles in a successful transition. The “Towards Working Life” group method was developed, among other objectives, to enhance internal motivation towards education-related goals, and to increase the number of personal goals and concerns related to future education. A total of 1034 ninth graders from comprehensive school were randomized into 25 intervention groups and control groups. A week-long group intervention, which took place at school, showed th…

Effects of surface nonlinear interactions on the local critical behavior

1987

Effects of surface nonlinear interactions on the local critical behaviors are studied for an-component field in the semi-infinite space near the SB (surface-bulk) point by using renormalization group methods. The model Hamiltonian consists of a free (Gaussian) bulk part and a surface term containing aφ4 interaction. The interplay between the free bulk term and the nonlinear surface term gives rise to interesting behaviors of the local surface properties. Whereas the local susceptibility and correlation exponents retain their mean-field values, the surface crossover exponent ϕ is non-mean-field below three dimensions. To second order in e(e=3−d) we find:η‖ and\(\phi = \frac{1}{2} - \frac{{n …

Alpha-cluster model for 8Be and 12C with correlated alpha particles

2001

Abstract An alpha-cluster model is proposed for 8Be and 12C nuclei, within the framework of the resonating group method (RGM). The composing 4He clusters are described using Jastrow-correlated translationally invariant configuration-interaction (Jastrow-TICI2) wave functions. The ground-state energies of the nuclei are computed by means of a Metropolis Monte-Carlo sampling.

Nonlocal calculation for nonstrange dibaryons and tribaryons

2001

We study the possible existence of nonstrange dibaryons and tribaryons by solving the bound-state problem of the two- and three-body systems composed of nucleons and deltas. The two-body systems are $NN$, $N\Delta$, and $\Delta\Delta$, while the three-body systems are $NNN$, $NN\Delta$, $N\Delta\Delta$, and $\Delta\Delta\Delta$. We use as input the nonlocal $NN$, $N\Delta$, and $\Delta\Delta$ potentials derived from the chiral quark cluster model by means of the resonating group method. We compare with previous results obtained from the local version based on the Born-Oppenheimer approximation.

Relative importance of second-order terms in relativistic dissipative fluid dynamics

2014

[Introduction] In Denicol et al. [Phys. Rev. D 85 , 114047 (2012)], the equations of motion of relativistic dissipative fluid dynamics were derived from the relativistic Boltzmann equation. These equations contain a multitude of terms of second order in the Knudsen number, in the inverse Reynolds number, or their product. Terms of second order in the Knudsen number give rise to nonhyperbolic (and thus acausal) behavior and must be neglected in (numerical) solutions of relativistic dissipative fluid dynamics. The coefficients of the terms which are of the order of the product of Knudsen and inverse Reynolds numbers have been explicitly computed in the above reference, in the limit of a massl…

Application of the group method of data handling (GMDH) approach for landslide susceptibility zonation using readily available spatial covariates

2022

Abstract Landslide susceptibility (LS) mapping is an essential tool for landslide risk assessment. This study aimed to provide a new approach with better performance for landslide mapping and adopting readily available variables. In addition, it investigates the capability of a state-of-the-art model developed using the group method of data handling (GMDH) to spatially model LS. Furthermore, hybridized models of GMDH were developed using different metaheuristic algorithms. The study area was the Bonghwa region of South Korea, for which an accurate landslide inventory dataset is available. We considered a total of 13 spatial covariates (altitude, slope, aspect, topographic wetness index, val…

New Areas of Application of Comparable Corpora

2019

This chapter describes several approaches of using comparable corpora beyond the area of MT for under-resourced languages, which is the primary focus of the ACCURAT project. Section 7.1, which is based on Rapp and Zock (Automatic dictionary expansion using non-parallel corpora. In: A. Fink, B. Lausen, W. Seidel, & A. Ultsch (Eds.) Advances in Data Analysis, Data Handling and Business Intelligence. Proceedings of the 32nd Annual Meeting of the GfKl, 2008. Springer, Heidelberg, 2010), addresses the task of creating resources for bilingual dictionaries using a seed lexicon; Sect. 7.2 (based on Rapp et al., Identifying word translations from comparable documents without a seed lexicon. Performance of the ALICE experiment at the CERN LHC

2014

ALICE is the heavy-ion experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The experiment continuously took data during the first physics campaign of the machine from fall 2009 until early 2013, using proton and lead-ion beams. In this paper we describe the running environment and the data handling procedures, and discuss the performance of the ALICE detectors and analysis methods for various physics observables.
