Molecular analysis of enteric viruses circulating in Tunisia : relationships between blood group antigens and rotavirus and norovirus infectivity

2015

Rotavirus and norovirus are the main aetiological agents of gastroenteritis in Tunisia. Stool specimens and saliva were collected from children younger than 6 years of age, admitted to the Fattouma Bourguiba Hospital (Monastir, Tunisia) for gastroenteritis during the winter 2011-12. Saliva analysis showed that 79% and 21% patients had secretor and non-secretor phenotypes, respectively. Group O blood type was predominant (42%) followed by groups A (30%), B (21%) and AB (7%), whilst 96% of the patients were positive for Lewis antigen. For 98 patients, blood samples were available and were used for FUT2 genotyping. 77.6% of the cohort were secretor (Se+/Se+ and Se+/se-) and 22.4% were non-secr…

: The pupils' learning in their context : the effects of the composition of the school environment

2003

Whilst we admit to recognising the contextualised character of pupils' learning, the no less essential influence of the parameters of the school or social context remains a relatively unemplored field. Of course, the mobility of school effectiveness amply demonstrates the influence of the school of class attended by the pupils on their progression. But in the search for general factors of effectiveness, this trend has had few questions asked of it concerning the relationship with the characteristics of the pupil public. However, all work carried out on the impact of the forms of grouping of the pupils shows that both the average level of the group and the social composition (known in the An…

Genetic population structure of Epinephelus marginatus (Pisces, Serranidae) revealed by two molecular markers

2006

In this paper, data are presented regarding the population structure of dusky grouper (Epinephelus marginatus) which was sampled in the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean using two different molecular markers, ND2 RFLP and cytochrome b (cyt b) sequence analysis. The main objective of the study is to analyse the genetic variability of E. marginatus in the Mediterranean Sea to define how the biological characteristics of the species, such as the dispersal capability of pelagic larvae and the benthonic-sedentary life style, can affect the genetic population structure or maintaining the gene flow or determining genetic differences. Furthermore, we considered an Atlantic sample to establish th…

Rovibrational spectroscopy of ethylene : Stark effect : Application to ethylene in zeolites

2010

The objective of this report is to present a study as complete as possible of the Stark effect in the asymmetric top molecules of X2Y4 type possessing the D2h symmetry group and to apply it to the problem of the spectroscopy of the ethylene molecule trapped in a zeolite. For the first time, a tensorial formalism adapted to the study of the Stark effect for the O(3) D2h group chain was developed. In parallel, a computer package was worked out as a new generation of software called D2hTDS-ST using a simpler basis, allowing an economy in the calculation time. On the basis of the theoretical and computing tools as well as from the experimental spectra, recorded in the laboratory, we made a firs…

Algebraic study of pyramidal molecules in the very excited vibrational states.

2005

In the frame of the algebraic formalism U(p+1), we developed the method to build a vibrational Hamiltonian corresponding to a set of three identical oscillators. In order to test the model, we apply it to the molecules of stibine and arsine. We introduce a supplementary intermediate group K(3) inspired by the similar formalism used in nuclear physics. This group K(3) gives additional labels for classification of the energy levels. The eigenvalues of these invariant operators distinguish the local states of the molecule. Then we study the coupling of the vibrational modes of stretching and bending for the non plane XY3 molecules. We present the construction of an algebraic operator of coupli…

The MLE of the mean of the exponential distribution based on grouped data is stochastically increasing

2016

Abstract This paper refers to the problem stated by Balakrishnan et al. (2002). They proved that maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) of the exponential mean obtained from grouped samples is stochastically ordered provided that the sequence of the successive distances between inspection times is decreasing. In this paper we show that the assumption of monotonicity of the sequence of distances can be dropped.

Vibrio harveyi causes disease in seahorse, Hippocampus sp.

2001

A mass mortality among cultured seahorses, Hippocampus kuda and Hippocampus sp., occurred in spring 1998 in Tenerife, Spain. Seahorses were held together with tropical shrimps, Stenopus hispidus, in glass aquaria supplied with 1000 L of sea water at 25 °C. The water supply was conducted between different tanks that contained various marine species, such as octopus, Octopus vulgaris, star®sh, Asterias rubens, sea-urchin, Paracentrotus lividu, greater weever, Trachinus draco, grouper, Epinephelus guaz and Canarian shrimp, Lismata amboiens. None of these species was affected, including the shrimps that shared aquaria with the seahorses. Mortalities of seahorses were very high (more than 90%), …

Equivalence relations among homology 3-spheres and the Johnson filtration

2021

The Torelli group of a surface consists of isotopy classes of homeomorphisms of this surface acting trivially at the homological level. The structure of the Torelli group can be approached by the study and the comparison of two filtrations of this group: its lower central series, and the "Johnson" filtration, given by the kernels of the natural actions on the successive nilpotent quotients of the fundamental group of the surface. It is now known that there are, via the notion of "Heegaard splittings", rich interactions between this 2-dimensional study and the study of some 3-manifolds topological invariants: we refer here precisely to the so-called "finite-type" invariants. In this PhD, we …
