Performance characteristics of Parkour practitioners: Who are the traceurs?
2015
International audience; Parkour is a modern physical activity that consists of using the environment, mostly urban, as a playground of obstacles. The aims of this study were (i) to investigate age, anthropometric and training characteristics of Parkour practitioners, called ‘traceurs’ and (ii) to assess jump performances and muscular characteristics of traceurs, compared to those of gymnasts and power athletes. The mean age of the population of traceurs studied (n = 130) was 19.4 ± 4.3 years, women represented 12.4% of the total field and mean training volume was 8.1 ± 0.5 hours/week. Vertical and long jump performances were analysed on smaller samples of participants (four groups, n = 15 p…
A revision of the new world species of Polytrichophora Cresson and Facitrichophora, new genus (Diptera, Ephydridae)
2012
The New World species of Polytrichophora Cresson and Fascitrichophora new genus, are revised. Fifteen new species are described (type locality in parenthesis): Fascitrishophora atrella sp. n. (Costa Rica. Guanacaste: Murciélago [10°56.9’N, 85°42.5’W; sandy mud flats around mangrove inlet]), F. carvalhorum sp.n. (Brazil. São Paulo: Praia Puruba [23°21’S, 44°55.6’W; beach]), F. manza sp. n. (Trinidad and Tobago. Trinidad. St. Andrew: Lower Manzanilla (12 km S; 10°24.5’N, 61°01.5’W), bridge over Nariva River), F. panama sp. n. (Panama. Darien: Garachine [8°04’N, 78°22’W]), Polytrichophora adarca sp. n…

Early Miocene marsupialiforms, gymnures, and hedgehogs from Ribesalbes-Alcora Basin (Spain)
2020
AbstractMaterials from the localities of Araia d'Alcora in the Ribesalbes-Alcora Basin (Spain, early Miocene, Biozone C, MN4) have yielded an assemblage of erinaceids and metatherians, relatively rich for an Iberian site. The most common erinaceid is the gymnureGalerix symeonidisiDoukas, 1986, present in almost all of the studied sites. Other erinaceids in the faunal list are possibly an indeterminate species of the generaLantanotheriumFilhol, 1888 andAtelerixPomel, 1848, in what constitutes one of their oldest occurrences in Europe. Metatherians are represented by the herpetotheriidAmphiperatherium frequens erkertshofense(Koenigswald, 1970). The material described here was partially publis…
La cura del corpo nella storia
2022
In this chapter, the authors present a historical reconstruction of body care as physical education, starting from oral civilizations and going through the classical, medieval and modern ages. Until 1800, the body was the object of attention of various religious and worldly views, while from the twentieth century onwards, body education as physical education was valued, becoming a subject of primary importance in the education of the person.
Skriftliga och muntliga färdigheter i undervisning av svenska som modersmål vid gymnasiet i Finland : en fallstudie
2016
Tämän tutkielman tarkoitus oli tutkia ruotsi äidinkielenä opetusta lukion pakollisilla kursseilla Suomessa kirjallisten ja suullisten taitojen näkökulmista. Tarkoituksenani oli selvittää, mitä opettajat painottavat opetuksessa, millaisia tehtäviä, työskentelymenetelmiä ja työskentelytapoja he käyttävät. Tutkimusaineisto kerättiin kyselylomakkeella, joka lähetettiin kahdelle opettajalle ruotsinkieliseen lukioon Suomessa. Materiaali analysoitiin kvalitatiivisena tapaustutkimuksena. Kyselyyn vastanneet opettajat pitivät tärkeimpänä kielen mukauttamista tekstityyppiin. He painottivat taitoa osata kirjoittaa erilaisia tekstejä. Opettajat käyttävät kirjallisten taitojen opetuksessa referaatteja, …
Promoting safe walking among older people : the effects of a physical and cognitive training intervention vs. physical training alone on mobility and…
2018
Abstract Background Safe and stable walking is a complex process involving the interaction of neuromuscular, sensory and cognitive functions. As physical and cognitive functions deteriorate with ageing, training of both functions may have more beneficial effects on walking and falls prevention than either alone. This article describes the study design, recruitment strategies and interventions of the PASSWORD study investigating whether a combination of physical and cognitive training (PTCT) has greater effects on walking speed, dual-task cost in walking speed, fall incidence and executive functions compared to physical training (PT) alone among 70–85-year-old community-dwelling sedentary or…
Angiosperm to Gymnosperm host-plant switch entails shifts in microbiota of the Welwitschia bug, Probergrothius angolensis (Distant, 1902).
2019
The adaptation of herbivorous insects to new host plants is key to their evolutionary success in diverse environments. Many insects are associated with mutualistic gut bacteria that contribute to the host's nutrition and can thereby facilitate dietary switching in polyphagous insects. However, how gut microbial communities differ between populations of the same species that feed on different host plants remains poorly understood. Most species of Pyrrhocoridae (Hemiptera: Heteroptera) are specialist seed-feeders on plants in the family Malvaceae, although populations of one species, Probergrothius angolensis, have switched to the very distantly related Welwitschia mirabilis plant in the Nami…
