Clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical characterization of 14 cases of angioleiomyomas in oral cavity

Background Angioleiomyoma (ALM) is a benign neoplasm that originates from vascular smooth muscle. It is extremely rare in oral cavity. The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinicopathological and immunohistochemical characteristics of all oral angioleiomyomas registered in a Center of Diagnosis of Oral Diseases from 1959 to 2017. Material and Methods Slides from 14 cases of ALM stained with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) were analyzed to confirm the diagnosis. Barrett's esophagus is a recognized risk factor for the development of esophageal dysplasia and carcinoma. Unfortunately, gastric incomplete intestinal metaplasia arising in Short Segment Barrett's esophagus can be indistinguishable histologically on hematoxylin/eosin stains. Distinct patterns of CK 7 and CK 20 immunohistochemical expression have been demonstrated to be both highly sensitive and specific for Barrett's esophagus, but have not been found in gastric metaplasia. Congenital myopathies - a comprehensive update of recent advancements

The congenital myopathies are relatively newly discovered compared with other categories of muscle diseases. Current research continues to clarify and classify the congenital myopathies. These pose a diagnostic problem and cannot be diagnosed by routine hematoxylin and eosin stain. A lot of special techniques are required to diagnose them correctly and it's various subtypes. The disease specific structural changes seen in the muscle are detected by enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy. Through this review we provide an up-to-date analysis of congenital myopathies including clinical and pathologic aspects.

Regionalization of epididymal duct and epithelium in rats and mice by automatic computer-aided morphometric analysis.

Aim: To establish a rat and mouse epididymal map based on the use of the Epiquatre automatic software for histologic image analysis. Methods: Epididymides from five adult rats and five adult mice were fixed in alcoholic Bouin’s fixative and embedded in paraffin. Serial longitudinal sections through the medial aspect of the organ were cut at 10 µm and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Exposure to radial extracorporeal shockwaves induces muscle regeneration after muscle injury in a surgical rat model

The leading cause of training interruption in sport is a muscle injury, for which the standard treatment is nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). To find alternative treatments, we investigated whether the radial extracorporeal shockwave application (rESWT) could stimulate muscle regeneration. A lesion with complete rupture (grade III muscle tear) was set in the musculus rectus femoris of 12-week-old Wistar rats, and the NSAID diclofenac, rESWT, or a combined therapy were applied on day 0, 3, and 5 directly following the surgery. underlying pathomechanisms is hampered by the lack of a suitable animal model. To circumvent this problem, we studied hepcidinknockout (KO) mice as a model of iron-overload associated liver disease. Methods: 6 and 12 month-old hepcidin-KO and -wild type (WT) mice fed 3% iron carbonyl-containing diet (Fe-diet) since four weeks of age were compared to age-matched WT and KO animals kept on standard diet. The liver phenotype was quantified serologically as well as morphometrically based on hematoxylin & eosin, Prussian blue and Sirius red stainings.
