Guanaconetins, new antitumoral acetogenins, mitochondrial complex I and tumor cell growth inhibitors

The antitumoral activity of a series of acetylated bis-tetrahydrofuranic acetogenins with a threo/trans/threo/trans/erythro relative configuration was characterized by four new natural and two semisynthetic, 15,24,30-trioxygenated acetogenins that were found to inhibit mitochondrial complex I enzyme as well as growth of several tumor cell lines. Placement of acetyl groups along the alkyl chain modulated the potency of the bis-tetrahydrofuranic acetogenins and could be important for future utilization of these compounds as chemotherapeutic agents.

Alpha-toxin of Staphylococcus aureus

Alpha-toxin, the major cytotoxic agent elaborated by Staphylococcus aureus, was the first bacterial exotoxin to be identified as a pore former. The protein is secreted as a single-chain, water-soluble molecule of Mr 33,000. At low concentrations (less than 100 nM), the toxin binds to as yet unidentified, high-affinity acceptor sites that have been detected on a variety of cells including rabbit erythrocytes, human platelets, monocytes and endothelial cells. In the last 15 years, scholars have increasingly applied Axel Honneth’s recognition theory to global issues such as justice, poverty, solidarity, peace, cosmopolitanism, and climate change. UNHCR estimates that there are currently 12 million stateless people worldwide. Their citizenship rights and human rights are mis-recognized. As humans, their human rights and human dignity should be protected. However, this requires being a citizen of a state, which, by definition, excludes stateless people. Although conceptual data modelers can ”get creative” when designing entities and relationships to meet business requirements, they are highly constrained by the business rules which determine the details of how the entities and relationships combine. On the derivation of a linear Boltzmann equation from a periodic lattice gas

We consider the problem of deriving the linear Boltzmann equation from the Lorentz process with hard spheres obstacles. In a suitable limit (the Boltzmann-Grad limit), it has been proved that the linear Boltzmann equation can be obtained when the position of obstacles are Poisson distributed, while the validation fails, also for the "correct" ratio between obstacle size and lattice parameter, when they are distributed on a purely periodic lattice, because of the existence of very long free trajectories. Structure–activity relationship of sphingomyelin analogs with sphingomyelinase from Bacillus cereus

AbstractThe aim of this study was to examine how structural properties of different sphingomyelin (SM) analogs affected their substrate properties with sphingomyelinase (SMase) from Bacillus cereus. Using molecular docking and dynamics simulations (for SMase–SM complex), we then attempted to explain the relationship between SM structure and enzyme activity. With both micellar and monolayer substrates, 3O-methylated SM was found not to be degraded by the SMase. 2N-methylated SM was a substrate, but was degraded at about half the rate of its 2NH–SM control. Molecules that target microtubules have an important role in the treatment of cancer. A new class of inhibitors of tubulin polymerization based on the 2-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoyl)-2-dimethylamino-benzo[b]furan molecular skeleton was synthesized and evaluated for antiproliferative activity, inhibition of tubulin polymerization, and cell cycle effects. The most promising compound in this series was 2-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoyl)-3-dimethylamino-6-methoxy-benzo[b]furan, which inhibits cancer cell growth at nanomolar concentrations and interacts strongly with tubulin by binding to the colchicine site.

Synthesis of new antimicrobial pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolin-3-ones

The attractive structure of the pyrroloisoquinoline moiety, together with its potential antimicrobial activity, encouraged us to prepare six 8-substituted and seven 8,9-disubstituted-1,2,3,5,6,10b-hexahydropyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolin-3-ones in a few steps with good yields. We applied a convenient methodology via double intramolecular cyclization conducted by a Bischler-Napieralski cyclodehydration-imine reduction sequence, which is widely employed in the synthesis of isoquinoline alkaloids. Sticking with your university: the importance of satisfaction, trust, image, and shared values

In a context of increasing competition and financial difficulties for higher education institutions, alumni loyalty is a key factor for survival and success. This study tests a model derived from a relationship marketing perspective to investigate the roles of four variables (brand image, trust, satisfaction, and shared values) in the direct and indirect explanation of alumni loyalty. Based on a literature review, a theoretical model is proposed and tested through structural equations modeling for a sample of 1000 university alumni.
