Do mobility, cognitive functioning, and depressive symptoms mediate the association between social activity and mortality risk among older men and wo…

2013

Social activity and health correlate in old age, but less is known about what explains this association. The aim of this study was to investigate whether mobility, cognitive functioning, and depressive symptoms mediate the association between social activity and mortality risk, or whether they alternatively should be considered as prerequisites for social activity in older Finnish men and women. In 1988, 406 men and 775 women aged 65–84 years took part in face-to-face interviews about their health, socioeconomic status, and social activities. Confirmatory factor analyses were used to form latent variables describing collective and productive social activity. Latent variable models were used…

2008

In this brief study we will carefully analyze the uses of arribar and aplegar in mediaeval language from Curial e Güelfa. Our goal is to discover when and up to which extent both verbs, arribar and aplegar, share their meaning during the first half of the 15th century, in order to shed light on the current situation of Valencian. At the same time, we will contrast the datum of this anonymous text with former, later and contemporary works from the datum of Corpus Informatitzat del Català Antic (CICA: 2007).

Croce.

Influenced by F. De Sanctis’ works and rejecting any kind of mentalism as well as …

Among those modern philosophers who have studied significantly the problem of evil, Benedetto Croce must be without doubt mentioned. The present essay focuses not on Croce’s complete theory of evil, but on the “answer” he offered in his interpretation of Hegel’s …

2015

The article focuses on the comparison between C.E. Gadda's Meditazione Milanese and some of the European thinking trends of the 19th and 20th century. Particularly important is the comparison with the idealism tradition, since Hegel to Bradley, from which evidently emerge the originality and modernity of Gadda's philosophi…
