Linear and nonlinear fractional hereditary constitutive laws of asphalt mixtures

2016

The aim of this paper is to propose a fractional viscoelastic and viscoplastic model of asphalt mixtures using experimental data of several tests such as creep and creep recovery performed at different temperatures and at different stress levels. From a best fitting procedure it is shown that both the creep one and recovery curve follow a power law model. It is shown that the suitable model for asphalt mixtures is a dashpot and a fractional element arranged in series. The proposed model is also available outside of the linear domain but in this case the parameters of the model depend on the stress level.

Investigation on fracture of epoxy-filled composites by acoustic emission

2016

Acoustic emission (AE) technique is widely used to monitor failure processes in composite materials includ-ing development of cracks and plastic deformations within the polymer matrix, fracture and debonding of inclusions, etc. In this study, the AE technique was applied investigating failure character of epoxy polymers with different content of nanofiller – fine polyethersulfone (PES) powder. Variation of material properties of the epoxy with 0, 5%, 7.5%, 10%, and 12.5% concentration (by weight) of the PES was assessed experimentally. Correlation between the PES content and the modulus of elasticity was found negligible. The same was characteristic for the tensile strength. Whereas, such a…

An alternative and easy approach to fixed point results via simulation functions

2017

Abstract We discuss, extend, improve and enrich results on simulation functions established by several authors. Furthermore, by using Lemma 2.1 of Radenovic et al. [Bull. Iran. Math. Soc., 2012, 38, 625],we get much shorter and nicer proofs than the corresponding ones in the existing literature.

The squared symmetric FastICA estimator

2017

In this paper we study the theoretical properties of the deflation-based FastICA method, the original symmetric FastICA method, and a modified symmetric FastICA method, here called the squared symmetric FastICA. This modification is obtained by replacing the absolute values in the FastICA objective function by their squares. In the deflation-based case this replacement has no effect on the estimate since the maximization problem stays the same. However, in the symmetric case we obtain a different estimate which has been mentioned in the literature, but its theoretical properties have not been studied at all. In the paper we review the classic deflation-based and symmetric FastICA approaches…

Nonisotrivial families over curves with fixed point free automorphisms

2005

We construct for any smooth projective curve of genus $q\ge 2$ with a fixed point free automorphism a nonisotrivial family of curves. Moreover we study the space of modular curves and that of parameters.

Blown-up toric surfaces with non-polyhedral effective cone

2020

We construct examples of projective toric surfaces whose blow-up at a general point has a non-polyhedral pseudo-effective cone, both in characteristic $0$ and in every prime characteristic $p$. As a consequence, we prove that the pseudo-effective cone of the Grothendieck-Knudsen moduli space $\overline M_{0,n}$ of stable rational curves is not polyhedral for $n\geq 10$ in characteristic $0$ and in characteristic $p$, for all primes $p$. Many of these toric surfaces are related to a very interesting class of arithmetic threefolds that we call arithmetic elliptic pairs of infinite order. Their analysis in characteristic $p$ relies on tools of arithmetic geometry and Galois representations in …

Maximal Cohen-Macaulay Modules over the Affine Cone of the Simple Node

2005

A concrete description of all graded maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules of rank one and two over the affine cone of the simple node (a non-isolated singularity) is given. For this purpose we construct an alghoritm that provides extensions of MCM modules over an arbitrary hypersurface.

Extremal properties of the determinant of the Laplacian in the Bergman metric on the moduli space of genus two Riemann surfaces

2005

We study extremal properties of the determinant of the Laplacian in the Bergman metric on the moduli space of compact genus two Riemann surfaces. By a combination of analytical and numerical methods we identify four non-degenerate critical points of this function and compute the signature of the Hessian at these points. The curve with the maximal number of automorphisms (the Burnside curve) turns out to be the point of the absolute maximum. Our results agree with the mass formula for orbifold Euler characteristics of the moduli space. A similar analysis is performed for the Bolza's strata of symmetric Riemann surfaces of genus two.

Spatial Besov regularity for stochastic partial differential equations on Lipschitz domains

2010

We use the scale of Besov spaces B^\alpha_{\tau,\tau}(O), \alpha>0, 1/\tau=\alpha/d+1/p, p fixed, to study the spatial regularity of the solutions of linear parabolic stochastic partial differential equations on bounded Lipschitz domains O\subset R^d. The Besov smoothness determines the order of convergence that can be achieved by nonlinear approximation schemes. The proofs are based on a combination of weighted Sobolev estimates and characterizations of Besov spaces by wavelet expansions.

Expression of selected molecular factors in two types of endometrial cancer

2021

BACKGROUND Endometrial cancers (EC) are a heterogeneous group of malignant neoplasms differing in etiology, clinical-pathological features and prognosis. OBJECTIVES To determine the differences between the expression of selected molecular factors and find connections between them in order to isolate possible biomarkers influencing treatment options. MATERIAL AND METHODS The investigated data involved archival histological preparations obtained from uterine EC samples taken from 137 patients, treated surgically between 2007 and 2014. The immunohistochemical Dako EnVisionTM Flex+ method was applied. RESULTS The expression of ERβ, MLH1 and BRCA1 was lower in ECI than in ECII patients. The ERα …
