Solution properties of the incompressible Euler system with rough path advection
2021
The present paper aims to establish the local well-posedness of Euler's fluid equations on geometric rough paths. In particular, we consider the Euler equations for the incompressible flow of an ideal fluid whose Lagrangian transport velocity possesses an additional rough-in-time, divergence-free vector field. In recent work, we have demonstrated that this system can be derived from Clebsch and Hamilton-Pontryagin variational principles that possess a perturbative geometric rough path Lie-advection constraint. In this paper, we prove the local well-posedness of the system in $L^2$-Sobolev spaces $H^m$ with integer regularity $m\ge \lfloor d/2\rfloor+2$ and establish a Beale-Kato-Majda (BKM)…

TLR4 abrogates the Th1 immune response through IRF1 and IFN-β to prevent immunopathology during L. infantum infection
2020
A striking feature of human visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is chronic inflammation in the spleen and liver, and VL patients present increased production levels of multiple inflammatory mediators, which contribute to tissue damage and disease severity. Here, we combined an experimental model with the transcriptional profile of human VL to demonstrate that the TLR4-IFN-β pathway regulates the chronic inflammatory process and is associated with the asymptomatic form of the disease. Tlr4-deficient mice harbored fewer parasites in their spleen and liver than wild-type mice. TLR4 deficiency enhanced the Th1 immune response against the parasite, which was correlated with an increased activation of de…

Interleukin 23p19 inhibitors in chronic plaque psoriasis with focus on mirikizumab: A narrative review.
2020
Psoriasis, a T-cell mediated chronic dermatosis, has a complex etiopathogenesis. There has been extensive research into the aberrant immune response, which leads to the formation of clinical lesions, and the need for developing better and safer drugs has been unrelenting. The past two decades of research has opened up new areas of the immune pathway that can be targeted in order to control the disease. Therefore, we have seen the emergence of biologics which either target T-cell receptors or inhibit Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-α) or inhibit interleukins (IL) like IL-12, IL-17, IL-17 receptor, and more recently IL-23. Drugs specifically targeting the p19 subunit of IL-23 have shown prom…
Impact of Plastic Debris on the Gut Microbiota of Caretta caretta From Northwestern Adriatic Sea
2021
Plastic pollution is nowadays a relevant threat for the ecological balance in marine ecosystems. Small plastic debris (PD) can enter food webs through various marine organisms, with possible consequences on their physiology and health. The loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta), widespread across the whole Mediterranean Sea, is a “flagship species,” useful as indicator of the general pollution level of marine ecosystems. Ingested PD accumulate in the final section of turtles’ digestive tract before excretion. During their transit and accumulation, PD also interact with the residing microbial community, with possible feedback consequences on the host’s health. To explore the possible relati…
Construction of Pupil Identities at School
2013
LU Advanced Social and Political Research institutePhone: +371 67 140 233e-mail: mikelis.grivins@lu.lv Several theorists who have analysed education on the micro-level have illustrated how mutual relations and process interpretation influence the education results. Furthermore, these authors show why relations are more beneficial to some pupils than to others. However, explanations why some pupils tend to benefit more are still simplistic, addressing only some of involved agents. This paper analyses how pupil identities in school are constructed. A teacher – one of the agents involved in the education process – holds the power to control the education process of pupils. Additionally, he has…
Malliavin derivative of random functions and applications to Lvy driven BSDEs
2014
We consider measurable $F: \times \mathbb{R}^d \to \mathbb{R}$ where $F(\cdot, x)$ belongs for any $x$ to the Malliavin Sobolev space $\mathbb{D}_{1,2}$ (with respect to a Lvy process) and provide sufficient conditions on $F$ and $G_1,\ldots,G_d \in \mathbb{D}_{1,2}$ such that $F(\cdot, G_1,\ldots,G_d) \in \mathbb{D}_{1,2}.$ The above result is applied to show Malliavin differentiability of solutions to BSDEs (backward stochastic differential equations) driven by Lvy noise where the generator is given by a progressively measurable function $f(,t,y,z).$
Decentralization is in itself a complex process that must be planned…
Present and Future of the E-Learning in Economics Schools and Faculties
2018
<p class="Textoindependiente21">The goal of this paper is to justify/motivate the existence of MOOCs of quantitative subjects, particularly of Mathematics and Statistics, in the degrees taught in Faculties of Economics and Business, complementary to the standard university courses. The changes in curricula carried out in Spain in the last decade have boosted access to these faculties’ degrees for all kind of students. However, some of these students lack skills and abilities enough to successfully tackle the first university Mathematics and Statistics courses, as these are currently designed. Empirical studies support the use of multimedia material as a very effective supporting tool …
