Reproduction of Baltic cod, Gadus morhua (Actinopterygii: Gadiformes: Gadidae), in the Gotland Basin: Causes of annual variability

Background. The Gotland Basin spawning ground is one of three main spawning areas of Baltic cod, Gadus morhua Linnaeus, 1758. The threshold water parameters for cod development are the salinity exceeding 11‰ and the oxygen level above 2 mL· L–1. Such conditions are only present when the 11‰ isohaline is above the 2 mL· L–1 isooxygen. In such situation the water volume between the isolines is called the “suitable reproduction volume”. When the position of the isolines is reversed, the salinity and the oxygen level of the water layer demarcated by them are below the required thresholds and as such the water is unsuitable for the cod development. The pioneering work done during the past three decades in the regulated Rivers Perhonjoki and Kalajoki, Finland, to study and rehabilitate river lamprey populations is presented. The effects of various anthropogenic activities and rehabilitation measures are evaluated based on habitat surveys and long-term monitoring of larval densities, numbers of adults migrating upstream and of transformers migrating downstream. Telemetric tracking and tagging experiments were used to determine the efficacy of fishways. Lamprey populations in both rivers decreased in the 1980s and 1990s. Abstract AIM: Oral and dental health improved tremendously over the last fifty years in Italy but still prevalence of dental caries in children remains a significant clinical problem. This report describes the National Italian Guidelines for caries prevention. METHODOLOGY: A panel of experts coordinated by the Italian Society of Paediatric Dentistry (SIOI) planned to elaborate the national Italian guidelines for caries prevention in children. L’ambroisie à feuilles d’armoise (Ambrosia artemisiifolia L.) est une espèce annuelle envahissante introduite en France à la fin du XIXe siècle. Plante rudérale, tolérante à de nombreux stress, l’ambroisie se développe essentiellement dans les habitats perturbés. Les principaux milieux occupés sont les parcelles agricoles, les bords de route et les zones perturbées par les activités anthropiques (jachères industrielles, zone de dépôt de matériaux …).
