Determination of halogen species of humic substances using HPLC/ICP-MS coupling

1997

A mass spectrometric method for the determination of chlorine, bromine and iodine species of humic substances (HS) has been developed by coupling a HPLC system with ICP-MS. Using size exclusion chromatography, the method was applied to the characterization of natural water samples (ground water, seepage water from soil, brown water) and a sewage water sample. Quantification of iodine/HS species was carried out by the on-line isotope dilution technique, which was not possible for bromine and chlorine species because of mass spectroscopic interferences by using a quadrupole ICP-MS. Characteristic fingerprints of the halogen/HS species, correlated with the corresponding UV chromatogram, were o…

Effects of protein on retention of ADH enzyme activity encapsulated in trehalose matrices by spray drying

2008

The retention of the enzymatic activity of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) on spray drying was examined under various drying conditions. Trehalose was used in the formulation of feed stocks for the spray drying. The retention of ADH activity was dependent on the concentration of ADH in the feed solution. The addition of other proteins, such as bovine serum albumin and β-lactoglobulin, exhibited an additional improvement of the retention of ADH activity. The inlet and outlet temperature of the drying air was another key factor for the enzyme activity on the spray drying. The surface morphology of the spray-dried particle was changed drastically with the addition of proteins.

Structure and luminescence properties of supramolecular polymers of amphiphilic aromatic thioether–peptide conjugates in water

2019

We present the preparation of luminophore–peptide conjugates that self-assemble into supramolecular polymers in neutral buffer. To this end, we have prepared a small library of six conjugates with varying substitution patterns of the aromatic thioethers, as well as varying amino acid sequences. The latter have allowed us to tune the thermodynamic driving force for self-assembly and probe their photoluminescent properties either in the monomeric or polymeric state, while fully avoiding selective solvent techniques or organic solvent mixtures. All of the supramolecular structures were characterised with transmission electron microscopy, circular dichroism measurements, as well as steady-state…

High-Performance Electron-Transporting Polymers Derived from a Heteroaryl Bis(trifluoroborate)

2011

In this communication, we report that dipotassium aryl bis(trifluoroborate)s make stable and easy-to-purify yet reactive monomers under Suzuki polycondensation reactions. A bis(trifluoroborate) of 2-alkylbenzotriazole was prepared successfully and copolymerized with dibromobenzothiadiazole in the presence of a Pd catalyst and LiOH, yielding high molecular weight conjugated polymers. This polymer (P1) composed of all electron-accepting units shows excellent electron-transport properties (μ(e) = 0.02 cm(2) V(-1) s(-1)), which proves the value of the aryl bis(trifluoroborate) monomers and suggests that many other types of semiconducting polymers that could not be accessed previously can be syn…

2,2′:6′,2″-Terpyridine Trimethylplatinum(IV) Iodide Complexes as Bifunctional Halogen Bond Acceptors

2016

Three new organometallic trimethylplatinum(IV) iodide complexes of 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridines have been synthesized and characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The X-ray crystal structures of PtMe3I(L) complexes 1–3 {L for 1 = 4′-chloro-2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine, 2 = 4′-(4-cyanophenyl)-2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine, and 3 = 4′-(4-tolyl)-2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine} reveal distorted octahedral coordination geometry of the platinum(IV) metal centers with bidentate coordination of the terpyridine ligands. Complexation of 1–3 with iodopentafluorobenzene (IPFB) afforded single-crystal structures of halogen bond (XB) complexes 1a–3…

Responses to salt stress in the halophyte Plantago crassifolia (Plantaginaceae)

2004

Abstract General responses to salt stress have been investigated in the halophyte Plantago crassifolia. Seed germination was strongly inhibited by NaCl, although seed viability and germination capacity were not affected by salt pre-treatments. A concentration-dependent inhibition of plant growth was observed in the presence of NaCl, which was accompanied by the accumulation of Na+ ions in the leaves, as determined by cation exchange HPLC. A 20-fold increase of proline content in leaves was observed when plants were treated with 500 m m NaCl, suggesting a protective role against high salinity stress for this amino acid, whose possible mechanism of action is discussed.

Supramolecular Assembly of Metal Complexes by (Aryl)I⋅⋅⋅d[PtII] Halogen Bonds

2020

The theoretical data for the half-lantern complexes [{Pt( CN^ )(μ- SN^ )}2 ] [1-3; CN^ is cyclometalated 2-Ph-benzothiazole; SN^ is 2-SH-pyridine (1), 2-SH-benzoxazole (2), 2-SH-tetrafluorobenzothiazole (3)] indicate that the Pt⋅⋅⋅Pt orbital interaction increases the nucleophilicity of the outer d z2 orbitals to provide assembly with electrophilic species. Complexes 1-3 were co-crystallized with bifunctional halogen bonding (XB) donors to give adducts (1-3)2 ⋅(1,4-diiodotetrafluorobenzene) and infinite polymeric [1⋅1,1'-diiodoperfluorodiphenyl]n . X-ray crystallography revealed that the supramolecular assembly is achieved through (Aryl)I⋅⋅⋅d z2 [PtII ] XBs between iodine σ-holes and lone pa…

Host–Guest Chemistry: Oxoanion Recognition Based on Combined Charge‐Assisted C−H or Halogen‐Bonding Interactions and Anion⋅⋅⋅Anion Interactions Media…

2016

Several bis-triazolium-based receptors have been synthesized and their anion-recognition capabilities have been studied. The central chiral 1,1'-bi-2-naphthol (BINOL) core features either two aryl or ferrocenyl end-capped side arms with central halogen- or hydrogen-bonding triazolium receptors. NMR spectroscopic data indicate the simultaneous occurrence of several charge-assisted aliphatic and heteroaromatic C-H noncovalent interactions and combinations of C-H hydrogen and halogen bonding. The receptors are able to selectively interact with HP2 O7 (3-) , H2 PO4 (-) , and SO4 (2-) anions, and the value of the association constant follows the sequence: HP2 O7 (3-) >SO4 (2-) >H2 PO4 (-) . The …
