Haptic Perception in Extreme Obesity: qEEG Study Focused on Predictive Coding and Body Schema

2020

Haptic perception (HP) is a perceptual modality requiring manual exploration to elaborate the physical characteristics of external stimuli through multisensory integrative cortical pathways. Cortical areas exploit processes of predictive coding that collect sensorial inputs to build and update internal perceptual models. Modifications to the internal representation of the body have been associated with eating disorders. In the light of this, obese subjects were selected as a valid experimental model to explore predictive coding in haptic perception. To this purpose, we performed electroencephalographic (EEG) continuous recordings during a haptic task in normally weighted versus obese subjec…

Does predictability matter? Effects of cue predictability on neurocognitive mechanisms underlying prospective memory

2015

Prospective memory (PM) represents the ability to successfully realize intentions when the appropriate moment or cue occurs. In this study, we used event-related potentials (ERPs) to explore the impact of cue predictability on the cognitive and neural mechanisms supporting PM. Participants performed an ongoing task and, simultaneously, had to remember to execute a pre-specified action when they encountered the PM cues. The occurrence of the PM cues was predictable (being signalled by a warning cue) for some participants and was completely unpredictable for others. In the predictable cue condition, the behavioural and ERP correlates of strategic monitoring were observed mainly in the ongoing…

Multifacial Recognition in Binary and Ternary Cocrystals from 5-Halouracil and Aminoazine Derivatives

2018

A systematic analysis using single crystal X-ray diffraction was performed to explore the role exerted by potential intercomponent proton-transfer reactions in the supramolecular structures of A–B cocrystals formed by 5-haloderivatives of uracil (A), coupled with 2-aminoadenine simulants (aminoazines, B). Twelve new heterodimers were synthesized in different stoichiometries and cocrystallized by solvent cogrinding followed by solution crystallization. In the binary cocrystals, uracil or 1-methyluracil with halide modification at the 5 position (F, Cl, Br, I) was coupled with amino-aromatic N-heterocycles (melamine, 2,4,6-triaminopyrimidine, 2,6-diaminopyridine) as a multivalent site for pyr…

Crystal structure of the pyridine–diiodine (1/1) adduct

2015

In the title adduct, C5H5N·I2, the N—I distance [2.424 (8) Å] is remarkably shorter than the sum of the van der Waals radii. The line through the I atoms forms an angle of 78.39 (16)° with the normal to the pyridine ring.

Halogen Bonds in 2,5-Dihalopyridine-Copper(I) Halide Coordination Polymers

2019

Two series of 2,5-dihalopyridine-Cu(I)A (A = I, Br) complexes based on 2-X-5-iodopyridine and 2-X-5-bromopyridine (X = F, Cl, Br and I) are characterized by using single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis to examine the nature of C2&minus

The C–I・・・⁻O–N⁺ Halogen Bonds with Tetraiodoethylene and Aromatic N-oxides

2020

The nature of C–I⋯⁻O–N⁺ interactions, first of its kind, between non-fluorinated tetraiodoethylene XB-donor and pyridine N-oxides (PyNO) are studied by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. Despite the non-fluorinated nature of the C2I4, the I⋯O halogen bond distances are similar to well-known perfluorohaloalkane/-arene donor-PyNO analogues. With C2I4, oxygens of the N-oxides adopt exclusively 2-XB-coordination in contrast to the versatile bonding modes observed with perfluorinated XB-donors. The C2I4 as the XB donor forms with PyNO’s one-dimensional chain polymer structures in which the C2I4⋯(μ-PyNO)2⋯C2I4 segments manifesting two bondin…

(2-Pyridyl)sulfonyl Groups for ortho -Directing Palladium- Catalyzed Carbon-Halogen Bond Formation at Functionalized Arenes

2017

International audience; We describe an efficient palladium-catalyzed selective C-H ortho-monohalogenation (X=I, Br, Cl, F) of various functionalized (2-pyridyl) aryl-sulfones. ortho-, meta-and para-functionalization is tolerated at the arene group which undergoes C-H halogenation. Some modifications are also possible on the 2-(arylsulfonyl) heteroaryl directing groups. A comparison of the halogenation efficiency suggests that bromination is the practical method of choice, while chlorination and fluorination are possible but more challenging. Under forcing conditions ortho-dihalogenation can also be achieved.

High-spectral-resolution Fabry-Pérot interferometers overcome fundamental limitations of present volcanic gas remote sensing techniques

2023

Remote sensing (RS) of volcanic gases has become a central tool for studying volcanic activity. For instance, ultraviolet (UV) skylight spectroscopy with grating spectrographs (GS) enables SO2 (and, under favourable conditions, BrO) quantification in volcanic plumes from autonomous platforms at safe distances. These measurements can serve volcanic monitoring and they cover all stages of volcanic activity in long measurement time series, which substantially contributes to the refinement of theories on volcanic degassing. Infrared (IR) remote sensing techniques are able to measure further volcanic gases (e.g., HF, HCl, CO2, CO). However, the employed Fourier transform spectrometers (FTSs) are…
