Brain Oscillatory and Hemodynamic Activity in a Bimanual Coordination Task Following Transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation (tACS): A Combined …

2018

Motor control is associated with synchronized oscillatory activity at alpha (8–12 Hz) and beta (12–30 Hz) frequencies in a cerebello-thalamo-cortical network. Previous studies demonstrated that transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) is capable of entraining ongoing oscillatory activity while also modulating motor control. However, the modulatory effects of tACS on both motor control and its underlying electro- and neurophysiological mechanisms remain ambiguous. Thus, the purpose of this study was to contribute to gathering neurophysiological knowledge regarding tACS effects by investigating the after-effects of 10 Hz tACS and 20 Hz tACS at parietal brain areas on bimanual coord…

Prototype selection for the nearest neighbour rule through proximity graphs

1997

Abstract In this paper, the Gabriel and Relative Neighbourhood graphs are used to select a suitable subset of prototypes for the Nearest Neighbour rule. Experiments and results are reported showing the effectiveness of the method and comparing its performance to those obtained by classical techniques.

A Greedy Algorithm for Hierarchical Complete Linkage Clustering

2014

We are interested in the greedy method to compute an hierarchical complete linkage clustering. There are two known methods for this problem, one having a running time of \({\mathcal O}(n^3)\) with a space requirement of \({\mathcal O}(n)\) and one having a running time of \({\mathcal O}(n^2 \log n)\) with a space requirement of Θ(n 2), where n is the number of points to be clustered. Both methods are not capable to handle large point sets. In this paper, we give an algorithm with a space requirement of \({\mathcal O}(n)\) which is able to cluster one million points in a day on current commodity hardware.

Incomplete vertices in the prime graph on conjugacy class sizes of finite groups

2013

Abstract Given a finite group G, consider the prime graph built on the set of conjugacy class sizes of G. Denoting by π 0 the set of vertices of this graph that are not adjacent to at least one other vertex, we show that the Hall π 0 -subgroups of G (which do exist) are metabelian.

Clinical, molecular and functional characterization of two novel mutations associated to compound heterozygous FHBL

2012

Introduction. Primary hypobetalipoproteinemia (pHBL) is a monogenic heterogeneous condition characterized by total cholesterol (TC) and/or LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) levels below the 5th percentile of the reference population. Heterozygous APOB gene mutations are responsible for the majority of the dominant pHBL causing the familial hypobetalipoproteinemia (FHBL). The clinical phenotype of heterozygous FHBL is usually mild. The homozygous or compound heterozygous APOB mutations are in some cases responsible for a more severe biochemical and clinical phenotype, similar to the abetalipoproteinemia (ABL) due to homozygous mutations in the MTP gene, characterized by intestinal malabsorption, pigme…

Superior Performances of the Neural Network on the Masses Lesions Classification through Morphological Lesion Differences

2007

Purpose of this work is to develop an automatic classification system that could be useful for radiologists in the breast cancer investigation. The software has been designed in the framework of the MAGIC-5 collaboration. In an automatic classification system the suspicious regions with high probability to include a lesion are extracted from the image as regions of interest (ROIs). Each ROI is characterized by some features based generally on morphological lesion differences. A study in the space features representation is made and some classifiers are tested to distinguish the pathological regions from the healthy ones. The results provided in terms of sensitivity and specificity will be p…

Cluster-based RF fingerprint positioning using LTE and WLAN signal strengths

2017

Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) positioning has become a popular localization system due to its low-cost installation and widespread availability of WLAN access points. Traditional grid-based radio frequency (RF) fingerprinting (GRFF) suffers from two drawbacks. First it requires costly and non-efficient data collection and updating procedure; secondly the method goes through time-consuming data pre-processing before it outputs user position. This paper proposes Cluster-based RF Fingerprinting (CRFF) to overcome these limitations by using modified Minimization of Drive Tests data which can be autonomously collected by cellular operators from their subscribers. The effect of environmental…

Deep CNN for IIF Images Classification in Autoimmune Diagnostics

2019

The diagnosis and monitoring of autoimmune diseases are very important problem in medicine. The most used test for this purpose is the antinuclear antibody (ANA) test. An indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) test performed by Human Epithelial type 2 (HEp-2) cells as substrate antigen is the most common methods to determine ANA. In this paper we present an automatic HEp-2 specimen system based on a convolutional neural network method able to classify IIF images. The system consists of a module for features extraction based on a pre-trained AlexNet network and a classification phase for the cell-pattern association using six support vector machines and a k-nearest neighbors classifier. The class…
