Resonance Excitations in 7Be(d,p)8Be* to Address the Cosmological Lithium Problem
2022
The anomaly in lithium abundance is a well-known unresolved problem in nuclear astrophysics. A recent revisit to the problem tried the avenue of resonance enhancement to account for the primordial 7Li abundance in standard big-bang nucleosynthesis. Prior measurements of the 7Be(d,p)8Be∗ reaction could not account for the individual contributions of the different excited states involved, particularly at higher energies close to the Q value of the reaction. We carried out an experiment at HIE-ISOLDE, CERN to study this reaction at Ec.m.=7.8 MeV, populating excitations up to 22 MeV in 8Be for the first time. The angular distributions of the several excited states have been measured and the con…
The Syntheses and Vibrational Spectra of 16O- and 18O-Enriched cis-MO2 (M=Mo, W) Complexes
2018
In this contribution, we report convenient synthetic approaches for obtaining 16O/18O‐enriched dioxidometalVI complexes, MO2(L) (W, Mo), with a linear, tetradentate amine phenolate ligand N,N′‐dimethyl‐N,N′‐bis(2‐hydroxy‐3,5‐dimethylbenzyl)ethylenediamine (H2L) and describe their characterization by IR and Raman spectroscopy complemented by DFT computational analysis. The isotopologues of WO2(L) were made of tungstenVI trisglycolate W(eg)3 (eg=1,2‐ethanediolate dianion) and ligand H2L in the presence of either H2[16O] or H2[18O], whereas Mo16O2(L) was made using Na2MoO4⋅2H2O which was converted to Mo18O2(L) by oxido substitution using H2[18O]. The complementary IR and Raman analyses show th…

The formation of dominant voice in issue arenas
2011
Abstract The aim of the present study was to map out required changes to current stakeholder thinking in public relations (PR) research and practice for a better suited model for PR professionals. The concept of issue arenas (Luoma-aho & Vos 2009) was adopted for the future direction of stakeholder thinking. Further, a central aspect of PR management on issue arenas is the division of voice – or indirect power – of different players. It was suggested that gaining a dominant voice in an issue arena would facilitate the attainment of organizational goals. Meaning was considered cental in this process. This thesis, focused, on the formation of dominant voice in issue arenas. Two research quest…
Inactivity is an independent health risk : objectively measured muscle activity and inactivity during normal daily life of ordinary people
2011
Pesola, Arto 2011. Inactivity is an independent health risk: objectively measured muscle activity and inactivity during normal daily life of ordinary people. Master’s thesis in exercise physiology. Department of Biology of Physical Activity, University of Jyväskylä. 96 pages. Today’s society promotes oversitting, and physical inactivity appears to be an independent health risk. The continuum from total inactivity to vigorous intensity training contains different physiological actions and objective measurements are needed to find out associations between physical activity, inactivity and health. The purpose of this study was to describe muscle activity and inactivity during normal daily life…
Isien näkökulmia lasten kotihoidontuen jakamisesta vanhempien kesken
2016
Kaakkola, Anna. 2016. Isien näkökulmia lasten kotihoidontuen jakamisesta vanhempien kesken. Kasvatustieteen pro gradu -tutkielma. Jyväskylän yliopisto. Kasvatustieteen laitos. 69 sivua. Tässä tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin isien näkökulmia lasten kotihoidontuen jakamisesta puoliksi vanhempien kesken. Tutkimuksen teko aloitettiin kun Kataisen hallitus ilmoitti suunnittelevansa lakiuudistusta lasten kotihoidontuen jakamisesta puoliksi vanhempien kesken. Suunniteltu uudistus jäi toteutumatta, mutta toteutuessaan se olisi pakottanut joko isät jäämään kotihoidontuelle tai perheiden olisi pitänyt viedä lapset aiemmin päiväkotiin. Tutkimuksessa haastateltiin yhdeksää isää, joilla kaikilla oli haastat…
Burned-out Fathers and Untold Stories: Mixed Methods Investigation of the Demands and Resources of Finnish Fathers
2021
Although parental burnout has been acknowledged as a unique psychological condition that can have serious consequences to families, most research so far has been conducted with mothers. The present study investigated how the descriptions of parenting-related demands and resources differ between burned-out and non-burned-out fathers. Furthermore, we examined what kinds of support or services fathers need to increase their wellbeing as parents. The participants were 10 fathers with the highest level of parental burnout symptoms, and 14 fathers with the lowest level of parental burnout symptom, out of 158 fathers who answered the questionnaire. The qualitative open-ended answers were analyzed…

Parenting styles of Finnish parents and their associations with parental burnout
2022
Abstract In the present study, we examined what kind of parenting style groups (defined by parental warmth, behavioral control, and psychological control) can be identified among contemporary Finnish mothers and fathers and how these parenting style groups are associated with parents’ symptoms of parental burnout. Gender differences in parenting style groups, and in their associations with parental burnout, were also investigated. The survey data were gathered from 1,471 Finnish parents (91.2% mothers). The results of k-means cluster analysis identified six different parenting style groups: authoritarian (13.5%), permissive (15.2%), psychologically controlling (19.4%), uninvolved (14.4%), c…
“Equally, but in our own way” : First-time parents’ prenatal expectations of coparenting
2022
This study examined the expectations of expectant first-time parents on coparenting in a Finnish two-parent family. Thirty expectant couples were individually interviewed (N = 60) during the third trimester of pregnancy. The semi-structured interviews focused on participants’ expectations and hopes on future coparenting. Thematic analysis revealed that the expectant first-time mothers and fathers saw coparenting as multidimensional. They talked about coparenting in terms of 1) division of labour issues, 2) management of family dynamics, 3) childrearing agreement, 4) coparental support, and 5) learning and developing. Thus, the expectant couples hoped for a coparenting relationship in which …
