A spontaneous mitonuclear epistasis converging on Rieske Fe-S protein exacerbates complex III deficiency in mice

We previously observed an unexpected fivefold (35 vs. 200 days) difference in the survival of respiratory chain complex III (CIII) deficient Bcs1lp.S78G mice between two congenic backgrounds. Here, we identify a spontaneous homoplasmic mtDNA variant (m.G14904A, mt-Cybp.D254N), affecting the CIII subunit cytochrome b (MT-CYB), in the background with short survival. We utilize maternal inheritance of mtDNA to confirm this as the causative variant and show that it further decreases the low CIII activity in Bcs1lp.S78G tissues to below survival threshold by 35 days of age. This study examines the occupational competence and attitudes that small business entrepreneurs consider essential to their work. Small business entrepreneurs were given an opportunity to express their views in small focus groups of peer entrepreneurs. Consensus opinions formulated by the groups were then meticulously documented. The results expose the very core or soul of entrepreneurial competence and attitudes by determining what small business entrepreneurs feel they must be able to do. Acknowledgement and acceptance of tacit knowledge as part of one's competence and attitudes would introduce a systematic approach to the recording of such knowledge and enable its transfer to co-workers …

As the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) celebrates its thirtieth anniversary, it is relevant to explore how understandings of children’s rights have appeared during these three decades. As a key public actor in society, the media provides an interesting field in which to study the salience of children’s rights in societal and public discussions. Thus, in this article, we examine how children’s views are represented in «Helsingin Sanomat», the main national newspaper of Finland, in 1997, 2007, and 2017. Nationwide evaluation of day-to-day clinical pharmacists' interventions in German hospitals.

tudy Objective To describe and evaluate the extent and diversity of nationwide data from clinical pharmacists’ interventions (PIs) in German hospitals. Design Retrospective analysis. Data Source The ADKA-DokuPIK German database, a national anonymous self-reported Internet-based documentation system for routine PIs as well as for medication errors reported by German hospital pharmacists. Measurements and Main Results Data sets from ADKA-DokuPIK entered between January 2009 and December 2012 were analyzed descriptively. Attīstoties tehnoloģijām, sensori kļūst aizvien mazāki un precīzāki, aprēķini, kas saistīti ar to sniegtajiem mērijumiem kļūst aizvien sarežģītāki. Iegultajām sistēmām ir īpašas energoefektivitātes un vietas patēriņa prasības, kas uz CPU un GPU balstītus risinājumus padara nepiemērotus. Pētījuma mērķis ir izstrādāt augstas veiktspējas līdzprocesoru matricu operācijām iegultajās sistēmas. Darba ietvaros tika veikta literatūras analīze, izstrādāts līdzprocesora prototips un veikts salīdzinājums ar alternatīviem risinājumiem. The indoor visual comfort of subjects faced with indoor ambient lighting varies with the position of the subject and is not constant over time. Average performance indexes, such as the mean value of Daylight Factor and Daylight Autonomy, are commonly used to analyse lighting distribution. These indexes, however, don’t properly take into account either the spatial or the time distribution of values affecting the non-uniformity of environmental lighting. Indeed, these are limited to the definition of a mean value or to the assessment of time availability of daylighting. Abstract This paper shows that the histone deacetylase inhibitor SAHA sensitised at sub-toxic doses human hepatocellular carcinoma cells (HepG2, Hep3B and SK-Hep1) to TRAIL-induced apoptosis, while it was ineffective in primary human hepatocytes (PHHs). In particular in HCC cells SAHA increased the expression of death receptor 5 (DR5) and caused a decrement of c-Flip. These two modifications provoked in the presence of TRAIL the rapid production of TRAIL-DISC and the activation of caspase-8.
