Echocardiography in assessing acute pulmonary hypertension due to pulmonary embolism.

Eighteen patients with acute pulmonary embolism were studied with right heart catheterization and M mode echocardiography. No patient had evidence of preexisting cardiopulmonary disease; pulmonary embolism was documented with pulmonary angiography. The mean pulmonary arterial pressure correlated with the angiographic severity index of embolic obstruction (r = 0.61, p 2 , p 2 ) and in 5 patients with acute pulmonary embolism and a mean normal pulmonary arterial pressure (10.9 ± 0.4 mm/m 2 ). The nephroprotective effect of sacubitril/valsartan in heart failure: insights from the real-life clinical setting

Real-life data confirming the favourable renal outcome in patients with heart failure (HF) treated with Sacubitril/Valsartan, previously found in several trials (RCTs), are still scant. We evaluated the renal effects of Sacubitril/Valsartan in a real-life sample of HF patients. Observational analysis of 54 consecutive outpatients affected by HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and clinical indication for Sacubitril/Valsartan. Cytoskeleton scaffold in cardiac myocytes provides structural support and compartmentalization of intracellular components. It is implicated in cardiac pathologies including hypertrophy and failure, playing a key role in the determinism of contractile and diastolic dysfunctions. Chromogranin A (CgA) and its derived peptides have revealed themselves as novel cardiovascular modulators. Prevalence, management, and outcome of adverse rhythm disorders in takotsubo syndrome: insights from the international multicenter GEIST registry

One important complication related to takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is adverse rhythm disorders. Our study was conducted to determine the incidence and management of adverse rhythm disorders in TTS and its long-term prognostic impact. We analyzed 906 TTS patients from 9 European centers. Patients were divided into the adverse rhythm disorders group (encompassing ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, torsade de pointes, and asystole or complete atrioventricular block) and non-adverse rhythm disorders group. PURPOSE In vitro evaluation of possible deflection and heating of present-day prosthetic heart valves during MR imaging at 1.5 T. METHODS 17 prosthetic heart valves, 12 technical and 5 biological, were investigated using a 1.5 Tesla Siemens Vision system. Deflection was measured at the edge of a 1.5 Tesla superconducting magnet. Hemodynamic effects of dobutamine in children with cardiovascular failure.

The effect of dobutamine, a synthetic catecholamine, was studied in 12 patients aged one day to 14 years with low cardiac output syndromes. After initial stabilization of the patients dobutamine was administered by continuous infusion in a dosage of 7.5 or 10 μg/kg/min. Heart rate, cardiac output (using thermodilution technique and/or pulse contour method), mean systemic and mean pulmonary artery pressures were determined before and after the dobutamine infusion. Systemic and pulmonary vascular resistances, cardiac index and stroke volume index were calculated.
