OBJECTIVE To assess reference values of ambulatory blood pressure in normotensive children. SUBJECTS AND DESIGN Twenty-four-hour non-invasive ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) was carried out in 241 healthy normotensive children aged from 6 to 16 years (126 boys, mean +/- SD age 11.2 +/- 2.7 years; 115 girls, mean +/- SD age 10.9 +/- 2.9 years). Diurnal blood pressure curve in children and adolescents

Objective To investigate the diurnal blood pressure curve in healthy normotensive children. Thirty-one children were re-examined after a median interval of 123 days in order to study the reproducibility of the diurnal profile. Subjects Twenty-four-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and conventional blood pressure readings were obtained in 228 normotensive children, whose ages ranged from 6 to 16 years and of whom 116 were boys and 112 girls. Circulatory reactions such as a drop in blood pressure, bradycardia, cardiac arrest, and even intraoperative death after insertion of the stem are well known events during total hip replacement. The present paper reports bone marrow intravasation after rise of intramedullary pressure in the femoral cavity during insertion of hip prostheses, demonstrated by intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography. In an animal study, the ultrasound echoes were identified as "mixed emboli" consisting of a core of bone marrow surrounded by thrombus. Previous studies have shown that the initial reaction of the rabbit bladder to partial bladder outlet obstruction is increased blood flow at day 1 and a return to baseline blood flow at 1 week. Mucosal and muscle blood flow followed this pattern but mucosal blood flow was always 4 to 5-fold greater. We tested this potential association by correlating cardiac output data obtained by echocardiography and cerebral blood flow data as determined by color M-mode measurements of carotid artery blood flow.
