Tetraaryl-methane analogues in group 14—V. Distortion of tetrahedral geometryin terms of through-space π–π and π–σ interactions andNMR sagging in ter…
1998
Abstract 44 members of thecompound series Ph4−nMRn (M=Si, Ge, Sn, Pb; R=o-, m-, p-Tol; n=0–4) were synthesized (15 newcompounds). The crystal structures of Ph3Sn (o-Tol) and PhSn (o-Tol)3 were determined and compared to 16 known structures. Subject to the distanced (M–C), an interplay between through-space π–π repulsion and π–σ attraction leads to either elongated or compressed tetrahedral geometry. 29 Si-, 119 Sn- and 207 Pb-NMR chemical shifts were determined in solution and in the solid state.73 Ge chemical shifts were measured only in solution. Anupfield or downfield sagging of the chemical shifts along each series is rationalized in terms of a π–σcharge transfer which is constrained by…
Über gemischte gruppe 14-gruppe 14-bindungen
1993
Abstract The six title compounds have been synthesized from Li/KSi/GePh 3 and chloride precursors in THF, DME or diethyl ether at low temperature. The six compounds crystallize isomorphously in the space group Pbca with ordered arrangement for the four symmetrical cases (SiSi 2.394, SiGe 2.412, GeGe 2.440 A) and statistical alignment for the two asymmetrical chains; angle range 116.5–123.3°. Replacement of Si by Ge atoms leads to low field NMR chemical shifts for 13 C ipso atoms and for directly bonded 29 Si atoms. This is in accordance with an enhanced electronegativity of germanium in comparison with silicon. UV/Vis and IR/Raman data are given.
The Effects of Individual Characteristics of the Naval Personnel on Sleepiness and Stress during Two Different Watchkeeping Schedules
2022
Background: Naval service can have a significant impact on the wellbeing of seafarers, and the operation of warships is highly dependent on the personnel on board. Nevertheless, there is a lack of knowledge concerning the impact of seafarers’ individual characteristics on their wellbeing in a naval environment. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate individual characteristics of the naval personnel that may be associated with the amount of sleepiness, fatigue and stress responses experienced during shift work and irregular working hours in a naval environment. Methods: The study took place on a Finnish Defence Forces’ Navy missile patrol boat on which 18 crewmembers served as s…
Cuerpos moldeables y vidas modulables: La invención del estado holísticamente saludable como bienestar (integral)
2020
The article argues ?from the Deleuzian concepts of society of control, moulding and modulation and the Rosean theory on the economization and medicalization of life? that the expansion of the concept of health in terms of integral and subjective well-being is the effect of a socio-historical shift in the way we relate to this signifier, and therefore to our bodies and ourselves. We use this interpretative network to analyze the effects that the biopsychosocial health paradigm has had in the context of aesthetic surgery and fitness practice. As a result, we see that the expansion of the concept of health has extended the domain of medicine into the spheres of personal care and physical appea…
Co-evolution of three mega-trends nurtures un-captured GDP – Uber's ride-sharing revolution
2016
Uber used a disruptive business model driven by digital technology to trigger a ride-sharing revolution. The institutional sources of the company’s platform ecosystem architecture were analyzed to explain this revolutionary change. Both an empirical analysis of a co-existing development trajectory with taxis and institutional enablers that helped to create Uber’s platform ecosystem were analyzed. The analysis identified a correspondence with the “two-faced” nature of ICT that nurtures un-captured GDP. This two-faced nature of ICT can be attributed to a virtuous cycle of decline in prices and an increase in the number of trips. We show that this cycle can be attributed to a self-propagating …
Congenital hypothyroidism caused by new mutations in the thyroid oxidase 2 (THOX2) gene
2006
Summary Objective Congenital primary hypothyroidism (CH) occurs in one of 4000 births and in 20% of the cases CH is due to a defect in thyroid hormonogenesis. Candidate genes were examined to determine the precise aetiology of suspected dyshormonogenesis in CH. Design The genes that code for thyroid peroxidase (TPO), pendrin (PDS), sodium iodide symporter (NIS) and thyroid oxidase 2 (THOX2) were sequenced directly from genomic DNA. Patients Two girls found to have CH in the neonatal screening programme and suspected of having thyroid dyshormonogenesis were investigated to identify their molecular defect. Results Patient A had a novel heterozygous 1 bp insertion in the THOX2 gene (ins602…
Research and Implementation of Energy Dispersal Algorithm for DRM System
2020
The article investigates the randomization algorithm of the OFDM signal energy used in modern digital broadcasting systems. Transmission part of the DRM system was modeled in MATLAB/Simulink software environment, bit sequences allocation tests were conducted using the original information signal and the corresponding modulation symbols with a scrambling algorithm and without it.

Bis(pyridylvinyl)diaminobenzenes: synthesis, acidochromism and solvatochromism of the fluorescence
2005
Abstract C2-symmetrical 1,4-distyrylbenzenes with 4-dimethylaminobenzene or pyridine as terminal rings, and propyloxy or dipropylamino groups in the central 2,5-positions were prepared. Solvatochromism of the absorption is small, but more pronounced in the fluorescence spectra. Some compounds exhibit huge Stokes shifts. Acid strongly alters the fluorescence: red shifts and decreasing quantum yields is the general result, but depending on the position and character of the basic sites, a strong recovery of fluorescence efficiency combined with large hypsochromic shifts may result in highly acidic solutions.
Rheological studies of moderately concentrated polystyrene solutions in the vicinity of the θ temperature. II. Shear-rate dependence for different th…
1983
The viscosity data of moderately concentrated polystyrene solutions in trans-decalin (TD) (θ solvent, θ temperature 21°C) and toluene (TL) (good solvent) reported in Part I are discussed in terms of Graessley's entanglement theory. Under good solvent conditions, Graessley's master curve provides an excellent fit up to high shear rates, whereas in the vicinity of the θ conditions the data have to be modified by a parameter ηfric introduced by Ito and Shishido. The characteristic time of mechanical response to flow of chains approximately given by the shift factor τ0 is found in good solvents to be on the order of the Rouse relaxation time. In poor solvents, close to demixing, τ0 tends to muc…
