Analysis of Electrical Loads and Strategies for Increasing Self-Consumption with BIPV Case study : Skarpnes Zero-Energy House

2017

Master's thesis Renewable Energy ENE500 - University of Agder 2017 At Skarpnes village (Southern Norway), the houses as zero energy buildings (ZEB) are installed with Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) systems, and these houses are not containing smart control of equipments. The aim of such buildings is that the amount of electrical energy produced is the same as that consumed in the buildings on an annual basis. In this thesis, the main objective is to analyse the methods for increasing self -consumption in BIPV, by minimizing the cost of purchasing electricity from the grid at time with no PV production, and maximizing the utilization of solar PV generated power, which reduces the po…

Unraveling the prominent role of the Rh/ZrO2-interface in the water-gas shift reaction via a first principles microkinetic study

2018

The industrially important water–gas-shift (WGS) reaction is a complex network of competing elementary reactions in which the catalyst is a multicomponent system consisting of distinct domains. Herein, we have combined density functional theory calculations with microkinetic modeling to explore the active phase, kinetics, and reaction mechanism of the WGS over the Rh–ZrO2 interface. We have explicitly considered the support and metal and their interface and find that the Rh–ZrO2 interface is far more active toward WGS than Rh(111) facets, which are susceptible to CO poisoning. CO2 forming on the zirconia support rapidly transforms into formate. These findings demonstrate the central role of…

The ALHAMBRA survey: Discovery of a faint QSO at z = 5.41 (Research Note)

2013

Aims. We aim to illustrate the potentiality of the Advanced Large, Homogeneous Area, Medium-Band Redshift Astronomical (ALHAMBRA) survey to investigate the high-redshift universe through the detection of quasi stellar objects (QSOs) at redshifts higher than 5. Methods. We searched for QSOs candidates at high redshift by fitting an extensive library of spectral energy distributions – including active and non-active galaxy templates, as well as stars – to the photometric database of the ALHAMBRA survey (composed of 20 optical medium-band plus the 3 broad-band JHKs near-infrared filters). Results. Our selection over ≈1 square degree of ALHAMBRA data (∼1/4 of the total area covered by the surve…

Cationic and Anionic Impact on the Electronic Structure of Liquid Water

2017

Hydration shells around ions are crucial for many fundamental biological and chemical processes. Their local physicochemical properties are quite different from those of bulk water and hard to probe experimentally. We address this problem by combining soft X-ray spectroscopy using a liquid jet and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations together with ab initio electronic structure calculations to elucidate the water–ion interaction in a MgCl2 solution at the molecular level. Our results reveal that salt ions mainly affect the electronic properties of water molecules in close vicinity and that the oxygen K-edge X-ray emission spectrum of water molecules in the first solvation shell differs signi…

Spectral dynamics of incoherent waves with a noninstantaneous nonlinear response

2013

We study the influence of a constant background noise on the dynamics of spectral incoherent solitons, which are incoherent structures sustained by a noninstantaneous (Raman-like) nonlinearity. As the level of the noise background increases, the incoherent wave enters a novel nonlinear regime characterized by oscillatory dynamics of the incoherent spectrum, which develop within a spectral cone during the propagation. In contrast to the conventional Raman-like spectral red shift, such incoherent spectral dynamics can be characterized by a significant spectral blue shift. On the basis of the kinetic wave theory, we derive explicit analytical expressions of these incoherent oscillatory spectra…

Multi-channel receptors based on thiopyrylium functionalised with macrocyclic receptors for the recognition of transition metal cations and anions.

2010

We report herein the synthesis and characterization of a family of ligands containing different cation binding sites covalently connected to a thiopyrylium signalling reporter. The receptors L1–L6 are able to signal the presence of certain metal cations via three different channels; i.e. electrochemically, fluorogenically and chromogenically. An acetonitrile solution of L1–L6 shows a bright blue colour due to a charge-transfer band in the 575–585 nm region. The colour variation in acetonitrile of L1–L6 in the presence of the metal cations Ag+, Cd2+, Cu2+, Fe3+, Hg2+, Ni2+, Pb2+ and Zn2+ has been studied. A selective hypsochromic shift of the blue band was found for the systems L4-Pb2+ and L…

Properties of a triazolopyridine system as a molecular chemosensor for metal ions, anions, and amino acids.

2006

The characteristics as a chemosensor of the compound 3-methyl-6,8-di(2-pyridyl)-[1,2,3]triazolo[5',1':6,1]pyrido[2,3-]pyrimidine (1) have been analyzed. Interaction with Cu(2+) produces a quenching of the fluorescence, while interaction with Zn(2+) leads to a quenching of the fluorescence followed by a bathochromic shift. The crystal structure of the Zn(1)(H(2)O)(3)(ClO(4))(2) x H(2)O complex shows the coordination of Zn(2+) through the terpyridine moiety. The octahedral site is completed by three water molecules. Interactions of the Zn(2+) complex with the anions sulfate, nitrate, nitrite, and dihydrogenphosphate in ethanol produce hypsochromic shifts and restoration of the fluorescence wh…

Substituent Effects on the [N-I-N](+) Halogen Bond

2016

We have investigated the influence of electron density on the three-center [N-I-N](+) halogen bond. A series of [bis(pyri din e) io dine](+) and [1,2-bis ( (pyridin e-2-71 ethynyl)b e nze n e)io dine](+) BF4- complexes substituted with electron withdrawing and donating functionalities in the para-position of their pyridine nitrogen were synthesized and studied by spectroscopic and computational methods. The systematic change of electron density of the pyridine nitrogens upon alteration of the para-substituent (NO2, CF3, H, F, Me, OMe, NMe2) was confirmed by N-15 NMR and by computation of the natural atomic population and the pi electron population of the nitrogen atoms. Formation of the [N-…

1.5Jy MOJAVE AGN sample and 3FGL data

2016

We use the complete MOJAVE 1.5Jy sample of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) to examine the gamma-ray detection statistics of the brightest radio-loud blazars in the northern sky. We find that 23% of these AGNs were not detected above 0.1GeV by the Fermi-LAT during the four-year 3FGL catalog period partly because of an instrumental selection effect and partly due to their lower Doppler boosting factors. Blazars with synchrotron peaks in their spectral energy distributions located below 10^13.4^Hz also tend to have high-energy peaks that lie below the 0.1GeV threshold of the LAT, and are thus less likely to be detected by Fermi. The non-detected AGNs in the 1.5Jy sample also have significantly l…
