Teaching Competences Through ICTs in an English Degree Programme in a Spanish Setting
2012
In this chapter I shall describe the ways in which a group of lecturers in English language and linguistics have attempted to help students acquire competencies using ICTs in an English Studies degree programme in Spain. The introduction of competence-based learning constitutes a major paradigm shift brought about by the convergence of degree systems in the European Higher Education Area, and is part of a concerted effort to make our degrees less teacher-centred with a view to giving students greater opportunities to participate in their own learning process, both inside and outside the classroom. I will outline how general and discipline-specific competences are acquired through the use of…
Structure of Dioxygen Binding Xerogels Incorporating Cyclams Complexed with CuCl2 Salts
2005
X-ray absorption/emission spectroscopies were combined in order to elucidate how hybrid xerogels complexed with CuCl2 could bind reversibly O2. Difference EXAFS analyses at the Cu K-edge revealed the existence of binuclear structures with long Cu...Cu distances, i.e. RCu–Cu ≈ 3.98 A and 3.87 A for the oxygenated and oxygen-free xerogels. In oxygenated xerogels, dioxygen would bridge two Cu atoms in a μ-η1 : η1 peroxo-like conformation. The Cu-O signal found at short distance (RCu−O1 = 1.85 ± 0.01 A) is fully consistent with 40% of O2 molecules being chemisorbed per Cu site. In oxygen-free xerogels, Cl K-edge EXAFS revealed the presence of CuI sites with short Cl-Cu bond lengths (RCl−Cu = 2.…
Electronic and Functional Scope of Boronic Acid Derived Salicylidenehydrazone (BASHY) Complexes as Fluorescent Dyes
2017
[EN] A series of boronic acid derived salicylidenehydrazone (BASHY) complexes was prepared and photophysically characterized. The dye platform can be modified by (a) electronic tuning along the cyanine-type axis via modification of the donor-acceptor pair and (b) functional tuning via the boronic acid residue. On the one hand, approach (a) allows the control of photophysical parameters such as Stokes shift, emission color, and two-photon absorption (2PA) cross section. The resulting dyes show emission light-up behavior in nonpolar media and are characterized by high fluorescence quantum yields (ca. 0.5-0.7) and brightness (ca. 35000-40000 M-1 cm(-1)). Moreover, the 2PA cross sections reach …
Copper(II) complexes with the N,N,O-tridentate ligand 6-amino-5-formyl-1,3-dimethyluracilato-(N6)-benzoylhydrazone: synthesis, spectral and XRD studi…
1999
Abstract From reactions between different Cu(II) salts and the Schiff base 6-amino-5-formyl-1,3-dimethyluracil-benzoylhydrazone (H2BEZDO) in alcohol, six new copper complexes with simplified formulas [Cu(HBEZDO)(H2O)(MeOH)]NO3 (1), [CuCl(HBEZDO)(DMF)] (2), [CuBr(HBEZDO)]·2H2O (3), CuBr(HBEZDO) (4), Cu(ClO4)(HBEZDO)·H2O (5), and Cu(SO4)1/2(HBEZDO)·1 1 2 H2O (6) were isolated. The structures of compounds 1, 2 and 3 have been established by means of XRD diffraction methods. In the three compounds, the Schiff base acts as a tridentate monodeprotonated ligand through the N(6), N(51) and O(52) atoms, making two five- and six-membered chelate rings. In the structure of 1 and 2, the solvent molecul…
Über zinn-haltige heterocyclen
1981
Abstract A complete series of diphenyl and mixed methyl/chlorine/bromine/iodinephenyl substituted oxadithia- and trithiastannocanes has been prepared by reactions between the respective disodium dithiolates and tin dihalides. The 13C NMR chemical shifts of these compounds and the coupling constants J(119Sn13C) are dependent upon the magnetic anisotropy of the substituents and the bond angles at the tin atom. The crystal structure of 2,2-diphenyl-1,3,6-trithia-2-stannocane has been determined and refined to R = 0.039. The environment of Sn is a monocapped tetrahedron (transannular distance Sn⋯S 324.6(1) pm). This type of coordination, intermediate between a tetrahedron and a trigonal bipyra…
Search for Gravitational-wave Signals Associated with Gamma-Ray Bursts during the Second Observing Run of Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo
2019
We present the results of targeted searches for gravitational-wave transients associated with gamma-ray bursts during the second observing run of Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo, which took place from 2016 November to 2017 August. We have analyzed 98 gamma-ray bursts using an unmodeled search method that searches for generic transient gravitational waves and 42 with a modeled search method that targets compact-binary mergers as progenitors of short gamma-ray bursts. Both methods clearly detect the previously reported binary merger signal GW170817, with p-values of <9.38 10-6 (modeled) and 3.1 10-4 (unmodeled). We do not find any significant evidence for gravitational-wave signals associate…

Analytic response relativistic coupled-cluster theory: the first application to indium isotope shifts
2019
With increasing demand for accurate calculation of isotope shifts of atomic systems for fundamental and nuclear structure research, an analytic energy derivative approach is presented in the relativistic coupled-cluster theory framework to determine the atomic field shift and mass shift factors. This approach allows the determination of expectation values of atomic operators, overcoming fundamental problems that are present in existing atomic physics methods, i.e. it satisfies the Hellmann-Feynman theorem, does not involve any non-terminating series, and is free from choice of any perturbative parameter. As a proof of concept, the developed analytic response relativistic coupled-cluster the…
