N3LOHiggs boson and Drell-Yan production at threshold: The one-loop two-emission contribution
2014
In this paper, we study phenomenologically interesting soft radiation distributions in massless QCD. Specifically, we consider the emission of two soft partons off of a pair of lightlike Wilson lines, in either the fundamental or the adjoint representation, at next-to-leading order. Our results are an essential component of the next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order threshold corrections to both Higgs boson production in the gluon fusion channel and Drell-Yan lepton production. Our calculations are consistent with the recently published results for Higgs boson production. As a nontrivial cross-check on our analysis, we rederive a recent prediction for the Drell-Yan threshold cross section us…
A first test of the framed standard model against experiment
2014
The framed standard model (FSM) is obtained from the standard model by incorporating, as field variables, the frame vectors (vielbeins) in internal symmetry space. It gives the standard Higgs boson and 3 generations of quarks and leptons as immediate consequences. It gives moreover a fermion mass matrix of the form: $m = m_T \alpha \alpha^\dagger$, where $\alpha$ is a vector in generation space independent of the fermion species and rotating with changing scale, which has already been shown to lead, generically, to up-down mixing, neutrino oscillations and mass hierarchy. In this paper, pushing the FSM further, one first derives to 1-loop order the RGE for the rotation of $\alpha$, and then…
Constraining multi-Higgs flavour models
2014
To study a flavour model with a non-minimal Higgs sector one must first define the symmetries of the fields; then identify what types of vacua exist and how they may break the symmetries; and finally determine whether the remnant symmetries are compatible with the experimental data. Here we address all these issues in the context of flavour models with any number of Higgs doublets. We stress the importance of analysing the Higgs vacuum expectation values that are pseudo-invariant under the generators of all subgroups. It is shown that the only way of obtaining a physical CKM mixing matrix and, simultaneously, non-degenerate and non-zero quark masses is requiring the vacuum expectation value…
A flavour-independent Higgs boson search in e+e- collisions at sqrt(s) up to 209GeV
2002
A search for the Higgsstrahlung process e+e- → HZ is carried out, covering decays of the Higgs boson into any quark pair, a gluon pair or a tau pair. The analysis is based on the 630 pb-1 of data collected by the ALEPH detector at LEP at centre-of-mass energies from 189 to 209 GeV. A 95% C.L. lower mass limit of 109.1 GeV/c2 is obtained for a Higgs boson cross section equal to that expected from the Standard Model if the Higgs boson decays exclusively into hadrons and/or taus, irrespective of the relative branching fractions. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Search for heavy vector-like quarks coupling to light quarks in proton–proton collisions at s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector
2012
This letter presents a search for singly produced vector-like quarks, Q, coupling to light quarks, q. The search is sensitive to both charged current (CC) and neutral current (NC) processes, p p --> Q q --> W q q' and p p --> Q q --> Z q q' with a leptonic decay of the vector gauge boson. In 1.04/fb of data taken in 2011 by the ATLAS experiment at a center-of-mass energy sqrt(s) = 7 TeV, no evidence of such heavy vector-like quarks is observed above the expected Standard Model background. Limits on the heavy vector-like quark production cross section times branching ratio as a function of mass m_Q are obtained. For a coupling kappa_(qQ) = v/m_Q, where v is the Higgs vacuum expectation value…
S-4 model for quarks and leptons with maximal atmospheric angle
2010
We consider a model for quark and lepton masses and mixings based on S-4 flavor symmetry. The model contains six Higgs doublets where three of them give mass to the leptons, and the other three gives mass to the quarks. Charged fermion and quark masses arise from renormalizable interactions while neutrino Majorana masses are generated through effective dimension five Weinberg operator. From the study of the minimization of the scalar potential we found a residual mu tau symmetry in the neutrino sector predicting zero reactor angle and maximal atmospheric angle and for the quark sector we found a four-zero texture. We give a fit of the mass hierarchies and mixing angles in the quark sector.
A Closer Study of the Framed Standard Model Yielding Testable New Physics plus a Hidden Sector with Dark Matter Candidates
2018
This closer study of the FSM: [I] retains the earlier results in offering explanation for the existence of three fermion generations, as well as the hierarchical mass and mixing patterns of leptons and quarks; [II] predicts a vector boson $G$ with mass of order TeV which mixes with $\gamma$ and $Z$ of the standard model. The subsequent deviations from the standard mixing scheme are calculable in terms of the $G$ mass. While these deviations for (i) $m_Z - m_W$, (ii) $\Gamma(Z \rightarrow \ell^+ \ell^-)$, and (iii) $\Gamma(Z \rightarrow {\rm hadrons})$ are all within present experimental errors so long as $m_G > 1$ TeV, they should soon be detectable if the $G$ mass is not too much bigger; […
Light Quark Yukawa Couplings and the W ± h Charge Asymmetry
2017
Abstract I review the recent theory progress on possibly measuring the light quark couplings, emphasizing the distinction between direct and indirect measurements. I highlight the importance of the W ± h charge asymmetry measurement as a direct probe of enhanced light quark Yukawa couplings. I propose the W ± h → l ± l ± q q ′ ν ν final state as a promising channel for measuring the charge asymmetry. This clean, same-sign dilepton final state should reach statistical discovery sensitivity in each W ± h charge mode with 300 fb -1 of Large Hadron Collider luminosity, and affords an impressive sub-percent statistical accuracy with the anticipated 3 ab -1 high luminosity upgrade. After accounti…
Search for pair production of heavy top-like quarks decaying to a high-pT W boson and a b quark in the lepton plus jets final state at s=7 TeV with t…
2013
A search is presented for production of a heavy up-type quark (t') together with its antiparticle, assuming a significant branching ratio for subsequent decay into a W boson and a b quark. The search is based on 4.7 fb(-1) of pp collisions root s = 7 TeV recorded in 2011 with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Data are analyzed in the lepton + jets final state, characterized by a high-transverse-momentum isolated electron or muon, large missing transverse momentum and at least three jets. The analysis strategy relies on the substantial boost of the W bosons in the t'(t') over bar signal when m(t') greater than or similar to 400 GeV. No significant excess of events above t…
Unitarity constraints on top quark signatures of Higgsless models
2005
We use conditions for unitarity cancellations to constrain the couplings of the top and bottom quarks to Kaluza-Klein modes in Higgsless models of electroweak symmetry breaking. An example for the mass spectrum of quark resonances in a theory space model is given and the implications for the collider phenomenology in the top sector are discussed, comparing to signatures of Little Higgs and strong electroweak symmetry breaking models.
