I poligoni stellati: origini storiche ed implicazioni didattiche

The genesis of mathematical concepts in the evolutionary line of human thought in the long story and the genesis in individual optics possess evident analogies. Starting from this assumption, we describe an activity presented to 15-year-old students; the aim was to consolidate fundamental concepts of Euclidean geometry related to regular polygons. The experimentation has used a didactic approach based on the historical evolution of the formal definition of regular star polygon through the centuries. The activity and the results obtained in terms of internalization of the concepts in the students are showed.

The curse of agility : The Nokia Corporation and the loss of market dominance in mobile phones, 2003–2013

We investigate how and why the Nokia Corporation failed to develop a successful strategic response to the threats of Apple and Google in the smartphone business and instead worsened its situation through several badly timed decisions. We identify key choices in technology and organisational design that jointly constituted sufficient cause for the abandonment of the mobile phone business. By focusing on choices instead of attributes (e.g. fear or hubris), we make progress in strategic failure research and simultaneously emphasise the strength of oral history methods and the philosophy of history as fruitful starting points for such an inquiry. peerReviewed

Students' usage patterns of video recorded lectures in an undergraduate mathematics course

International audience; It is customary for some universities to offer recordings of live lectures to students. Whether this improves learning and academic performance is debated in the literature. As with most technology, correct usage can lead to increased academic performance, but there are also usage patterns that can be considered counter productive, especially for learning mathematics. In order to investigate patterns in students' usage of such online recorded live lectures, we analyze log files from a server holding the recordings of an undergraduate mathematics course. Kokopäiväpedagogiikka on noussut keskeiseksi toimintatavaksi suomalaisissa päiväkodeissa. Se on myös useissa paikallisissa varhaiskasvatussuunnitelmissa toiminnan lähtökohtana, vaikka käsitteen tieteellinen määrittely on kesken ja käytännön tulkinnat vaihtelevat. The article focuses on the analysis of the understanding of “formula of happiness” of Jānis Pliekšāns (Rainis), lawyer, philosopher and the most famous Latvian poet. Rainis’ works were created at the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th centuries. This is the time when the legal consciousness of the Latvian State was evolving and the Republic of Latvia was proclaimed (1918). Rainis’ views in the philosophy of law were significantly influenced by the theory of Marxism and the fight for rights described by Rudolf von Ihering. Fanonian analysis of racism and postcolonial structures of othering

The paper explores how boundaries affect the search for identity in the context of racism and colonialism. Colonized individuals often experience a sense of alienation and inferiority caused by the limitations imposed by colonial power structures, leading to a quest for personal identity. However, the binary division between the colonizer and colonized affects everyone involved, making searching for personal identity more complex and reinforcing systemic racism.
