Semilinear Robin problems driven by the Laplacian plus an indefinite potential

2019

We study a semilinear Robin problem driven by the Laplacian plus an indefinite potential. We consider the case where the reaction term f is a Carathéodory function exhibiting linear growth near ±∞. So, we establish the existence of at least two solutions, by using the Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction method together with variational tools.

Spanish Stock Returns: Rational or Weather-Influenced?

2002

Psychological studies support the existence of an influence of weather on mood. It could affect the behaviour of market traders, as suggested by some authors, and this should be reflected by the stock returns. This paper investigates the possible relation between weather and market index returns in the context of the Spanish market, in order to test the above hypothesis. In 1989, this market changed its open outcry trading system into a computerised and decentralised trading system. Therefore, it is possible to check the influence of weather variables (sunshine hours and humidity levels) on index returns in an open outcry trading system, and to compare it with a screen traded environment. More restrictive Gray codes for necklaces and Lyndon words

2008

In the last years, the order induced by the Binary Reflected Gray Code or its generalizations shown an increasing interest. In this note we show that the BRGC order induces a cyclic 2-Gray code on the set of binary necklaces and Lyndon words and a cyclic 3-Gray code on the unordered counterparts. This is an improvement and a generalization to unlabeled words of the result in [V. Vajnovszki, Gray code order for Lyndon words, Discrete Math. Theoret. Comput. Sci. 9 (2) (2007) 145-152; M. Weston, V. Vajnovszki, Gray codes for necklaces and Lyndon words of arbitrary base, Pure Mathematics and Applications/Algebra and Theoretical Computer Science, in press]; however an algorithmic implementation …

Human rights organizations and online agenda setting

2011

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to better understand agenda setting by international human rights organizations in the online environment and at the same time contribute to agenda‐setting theory. The role of non‐governmental organizations (NGOs) in the area of human rights is clarified, and agenda setting and related concepts are discussed.Design/methodology/approachThe study focuses on how attention is drawn to human rights issues in online communication by Human Rights Watch (HRW) and Amnesty International. A content analysis of online forums of HRW and Amnesty International was conducted by monitoring their web sites and Facebook and Twitter pages over a period of three months. In ad…

A Newly-Detected Reductase fromRauvolfiaCloses a Gap in the Biosynthesis of the Antiarrhythmic Alkaloid Ajmaline

2002

A new enzyme, 1,2-dihydrovomilenine reductase (E.C. 1.3.1), has been detected in Rauvolfia cell suspension cultures. The enzyme specifically converts 2beta( R)-1,2-dihydrovomilenine through an NADPH-dependent reaction into 17-O-acetylnorajmaline, a close biosynthetic precursor of the antiarrhythmic alkaloid ajmaline from Rauvolfia. A five-step purification procedure using SOURCE 30Q chromatography, hydroxyapatite chromatography, 2',5'-ADP Sepharose 4B affinity chromatography and ion exchange chromatography on DEAE Sepharose and Mono Q delivered an approximately 200-fold enriched enzyme in a yield of approximately 6%. SDS-PAGE showed an M r for the enzyme of approximately 48 kDa. Optimum pH …
