Effects of amsacrine (m-AMSA), a new aminoacridine antitumor drug, on the rabbit heart.

There is emerging clinical evidence that amsacrine (m-AMSA) administration may be associated with cardiotoxic effects such as severe, even fatal, ventricular arrhythmias and impairment of the inotropic performance of the heart. Information on the cardiac effects of m-AMSA in animals is scanty. Studies on mice, dogs, and monkeys have not evidenced the cardiotoxicity of the compound. The data presented in this paper show that m-AMSA causes acute ECG alterations in normal rabbits and a dose-related negative inotropic effect on the isolated rabbit heart, suggesting that this species may be a useful model for the study of the cardiac actions of this antiblastic.

We describe application of a novel refinement method for an accurate determination of the chemical diffusion coefficient, D, and the generalized kinetic parameter, A, from experimental potentiostatic intermittent titration technique (PITT) data suited for a variety of electrochemically doped electroactive polymers and inorganic intercalation host materials. Normal forms of hyperbolic logarithmic transseries

We find the normal forms of hyperbolic logarithmic transseries with respect to parabolic logarithmic normalizing changes of variables. We provide a necessary and sufficient condition on such transseries for the normal form to be linear. The normalizing transformations are obtained via fixed point theorems, and are given algorithmically, as limits of Picard sequences in appropriate topologies.

The present article delves into the history of political philosophy by discussing human sociability in Antonio Montecatini's (1537–99) commentary on Aristotle's Politics. The focus is on a philosophical analysis of three interrelated ideas that Montecatini discusses: (1) Aristotle's dictum that human beings are political animals by nature; (2) naturalness of the household; and (3) the nature and origin of political communities. Implantable defibrillators (ICDs) use very low computational cost criteria (rate, stability and onset) offering good sensitivity for arrhythmia detection. Mathematical Model of Solid Food Pasteurization by Ohmic Heating: Influence of Process Parameters

Pasteurization of a solid food undergoing ohmic heating has been analysed by means of a mathematical model, involving the simultaneous solution of Laplace’s equation, which describes the distribution of electrical potential within a food, the heat transfer equation, using a source term involving the displacement of electrical potential, the kinetics of inactivation of microorganisms likely to be contaminating the product. Safety and feasibility of atropine added in patients with sub-maximal heart rate during exercise myocardial perfusion SPECT.

Failure to reach 80% of maximal predicted heart rate (HR) during exercise may render a myocardial perfusion single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) study non-diagnostic for ischemia detection. The Relevance of Kneading and Extrusion Parameters in the Manufacture of Active Porous Aluminas from Pseudoboehmites

In order to study the effect-on crushing strength, attrition resistance, specific pore volume, and pore volume distribution of extrudates-of kneading and extrusion parameters in the manufacture of active porous aluminas, a commercial pseudoboehmite (Pural SB from Condea Chemie, Brunsbuttel, FRG) was employed. A minimum kneading torque was required to prepare an extrudable paste, predetermined by extrusion conditions. The torque had an upper limit with respect to certain extrudate properties.
