Le discours du fou dans le récit romantique européen (Allemagne, France, Russie)

2012

The thesis studies the linguistics, philosophy and aesthetics of literary language of the madman in the Romantic era. It focuses on The Devil's Elixirs (Hoffmann, 1815),The Crumb Fairy (Nodier, 1832), The Diary of a Madman(Gogol, 1835), The Sylph(Odoevsky, 1837) and Aurelia(Nerval, 1855). Other narratives are more promptly summoned, as The Night Watches(Bonaventura, 1804) or Louis Lambert(Balzac, 1832).The madman is a problematic being: he is both unhealthy and inhabited by a divine inspiration. This paradox finds a new relevance in the first half of the nineteenth century. On the one hand, the development of Alienism tends to define mental pathologies from a medical point of view. On the o…

Control of glycolysis in vertebrate skeletal muscle during exercise

1996

The gastrocnemius muscle of the frog (Rana temporaria) has a high capacity for anaerobic glycolysis from glycogen. Glycolytic metabolites and effectors of phosphofructokinase, particularly the hexose bisphosphates, were followed in muscle during exercise (swimming between 5 s and 5 min), recovery (rest for up to 2 h after 5 min of swimming), and repeated exercise (swimming for up to 60 s after 2 h of recovery). Glycogen phosphorylase and phosphofructokinase were swiftly activated with exercise. The hexose bisphosphates followed markedly different time courses. Fructose 1,6-bisphosphate was transiently increased in both exercise and repeated exercise. This appears to be an effect rather tha…

Applications of the Connection between Approximation Theory and Algebra

2009

The aim of this paper is to illustrate a possibility of obtaining various theoretical results using the connection between multivariate interpolation and reduction process with respect to a H-basis of an ideal. Using this connection we can switch between interpolation theory and the theory of ideals. As a application of this connection, we found and proved an interesting identity, which is satisfied for all polynomials in d variables from an interpolation polynomial subspace.

Cloning and tissue expression of two cDNAs encoding the peroxisomal 2-enoyl-CoA hydratase/3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase in the guinea pig liver

1996

Abstract The 2-enoyl-CoA hydratase/3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase (HD) is the second enzyme of the peroxisomal β-oxidation pathway. In human and rat, only one HD mRNA has been so far detected in the liver. This paper reports for the first time in a mammal species, the guinea pig, the cloning and sequencing of two cDNAs encoding an HD. The 3,274 nucleotide-cDNA is a strictly identical but longer copy of the 2,494 nucleotide-form. A 2,178 by-open reading frame encodes a protein of 726 amino acids ( M r 79.3 kDa) with the peroxisomal-targeting signal (tripeptide SKL) at the carboxyterminus. Northern blot analysis of HD mRNA identified three mRNAs of respective sizes 3.5, 2.6 and 1.6 kb in the…

Chapter 1 The Resolution Challenge in 3D Optical Microscopy

2009

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the theoretical principles of 3D microscopy with the widespread realizations of 3D microscopy.Based on the paraxial diffraction equations, it has been shown that conventional microscopes, when dealing with 3D fluorescent samples, provide sets of 2D images. These images of the different transverse sections of the 3D object contain, in addition to the sharp image of the in focus section, the blurred images of the rest of the specimen. The paraxial formalism has been generalized in a very simple way to a non-paraxial context, showing that the equations that govern non-paraxial imaging are similar to those that govern paraxial imaging. The only differenc…

Voice and Culture: A Prospect Theory Approach

2014

The present study examines the congruence of individuals' minimum preferred amounts of voice with the prospect theory value function across nine countries. Accounting for previously ignored minimum preferred amounts of voice and actual voice amounts integral to testing the steepness of gain and loss functions explicated in prospect theory, we use curve fitting to show that ratings of procedural justice fit prospect theory's value function specifically. Further, we investigate the form of this function across nine countries that range in power distance. Results suggest that the form of the value function is congruent with prospect theory, showing an S-shaped curve that is steeper in the loss…

Measurement of Upsilon production in collisions at root s=2.76 TeV

2014

The production of Υ(1S) , Υ(2S) and Υ(3S) mesons decaying into the dimuon final state is studied with the LHCb detector using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.3pb-1 collected in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s=2.76  TeV. The differential production cross-sections times dimuon branching fractions are measured as functions of the Υ transverse momentum and rapidity, over the ranges pT<15 GeV/ c and 2.0<y<4.5 . The total cross-sections in this kinematic region, assuming unpolarised production, are measured to be σpp→Υ(1S)X×BΥ(1S)→μ+μ-=1.111±0.043±0.044nb,σpp→Υ(2S)X×BΥ(2S)→μ+μ-=0.264±0.023±0.011nb,σpp→Υ(3S)X×BΥ(3S)→μ+μ-=0.159±0.020±0.…

Study of W Boson Production in Association with Beauty and Charm

2015

The associated production of a W boson with a jet originating from either a light parton or heavy-flavor quark is studied in the forward region using proton-proton collisions. The analysis uses data corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1.0 and 2.0  fb[superscript -1] collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, respectively. The W bosons are reconstructed using the W → μν decay and muons with a transverse momentum, p[subscript T], larger than 20 GeV in the pseudorapidity range 2.0 20  GeV and 2.2 20  GeV. The fraction of W + jet events that originate from beauty and charm quarks is measured, along with the charge asymmetries of the W + b and W + c produ…
