Identification and molecular characterization of CALM/AF10fusion products in T cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia and acute myeloid leukemia

The t(10;11)(p12-p13;q14-q21) observed in a subset of patients with either acute lymphoblastic leukemia or acute myeloid leukemia has been shown to result in the fusion of AF10 on chromosome 10 with CALM (also named CLTH) on chromosome 11. AF10 was originally identified as a fusion partner of MLL in the t(10;11)(p12-p13;q23) observed in myeloid leukemia. CALM is a newly isolated gene, cloned as the fusion partner of AF10 in the monocytoid cell line, U937. [18F]5-fluoro-2-deoxyuridine-PET for imaging of malignant tumors and for measuring tissue proliferation

The nucleoside 5-fluoro-2-deoxyuridine is a pyrimidine analogue accumulating in proliferative cells. We prospectively evaluated biodistribution of the PET tracer [(18)F]5-fluoro-2-deoxyuridine (FdUrd), its value for imaging malignant tumors, and its correlation to both [(18)F]2-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose (FDG)-PET findings and histological proliferation indices. Splenectomy influences bone marrow infiltration in patients with splenic marginal zone cell lymphoma with or without villous lymphocytes.

BACKGROUND Splenic marginal zone cell lymphoma (SMZL) is a low grade B-cell lymphoma in which patients can have circulating villous lymphocytes and can show a peculiar intrasinusoidal bone marrow (BM) infiltration. Splenectomy is the reported treatment of choice for these patients. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of splenectomy on patients with BM lymphomatous infiltration. Abstract Splenic Marginal Zone Lymphoma (SMZL), with or without villous lymphocytes (VL+/-), is a low-grade lymphoproliferative disorder with constant involvement of the bone marrow (BM). Survival of patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in Germany in the early 21st century.

This study provides up-to-date and detailed cancer survival estimates of German patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL, International Statistical Classification of Diseases 10th Revision [ICD-10] codes C82-C85) based on data from 11 cancer registries. Period analysis was used to calculate 5-year relative survival in 2002-2006, overall and by gender, age and histology. Comparison was made with patients with NHL in the United States (US) Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database in the same time period. The heterogeneity of changes in incidence and survival among lymphoid malignancies in a 30-year French population-based registry.

Our specialized population-based registry has allowed us to explore changes in incidence and survival by subtype over the last 30 years. Between 1980 and 2009, 4790 cases of lymphoid malignancies were registered using the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology. The incidence rate of lymphoid malignancies was 20.5 per 100,000 inhabitants per year, and ranged from 0.1 to 4 according to subtype. Five-year net survival was 65%, and ranged from 41% to 93% according to subtype. We observed an increase in 5-year net survival between the periods 1980-1989 and 2000-2009 (58% vs. 70%). Atopic disease and risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma: an InterLymph pooled analysis

AbstractWe performed a pooled analysis of data on atopic disease and risk of non–Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) from 13 case-control studies, including 13,535 NHL cases and 16,388 controls. Self-reported atopic diseases diagnosed 2 years or more before NHL diagnosis (cases) or interview (controls) were analyzed. Pooled odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were computed in two-stage random-effects or joint fixed-effects models, and adjusted for age, sex, and study center. A phase II study of alemtuzumab, fludarabine, cyclophosphamide, and doxorubicin (Campath-FCD) in peripheral T-cell lymphomas

The clinical course of peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) is usually aggressive and the prognosis unfavorable. Therefore, there is a need for improvement of treatment options. Patients with newly diagnosed (n = 27) or refractory/relapsed (n = 11) PTCL received a combination of alemtuzumab, fludarabine, cyclophosphamide, and doxorubicin. The overall response rate (ORR) was 61%, with a complete response rate of 39%. In newly diagnosed patients the ORR was 63%, the median overall survival 25.9 months, and progression-free survival 11.8 months. In relapsed/refractory patients the median OS was 6.1 months. To investigate whether long-term over, or under, nutrition is associated with NHL, self-reported anthropometric data on weight and height from over 10,000 cases of NHL and 16,000 controls were pooled across 18 case-control studies identified through the International Lymphoma Epidemiology Consortium.
