Antibody-drug conjugates for lymphoma patients: preclinical and clinical evidences
2022
Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) are a recent, revolutionary approach for malignancies treatment, designed to provide superior efficacy and specific targeting of tumor cells, compared to systemic cytotoxic chemotherapy. Their structure combines highly potent anti-cancer drugs (payloads or warheads) and monoclonal antibodies (Abs), specific for a tumor-associated antigen, via a chemical linker. Because the sensitive targeting capabilities of monoclonal Abs allow the direct delivery of cytotoxic payloads to tumor cells, these agents leave healthy cells unharmed, reducing toxicity. Different ADCs have been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (…

Elävät kuolleet : Aristoteles, Hobbes ja Fromm modernin zombikuvaston valossa
2019
Zombeja käsittelevät televisiosarjat ja sarjakuvat ovat viime vuosina saavuttaneet suurta suosiota. Esimerkiksi The Walking Dead -sarjan ensimmäinen jakso näytettiin samanaikaisesti 120 maassa, ja sarjaa on sittemmin katsonut tuotantokaudesta riippuen 5–15 miljoonaa katsojaa. Post-apokalyptinen maailma kiehtoo suurta yleisöä, koska dystooppiset tarinat peilaavat erilaisia käsityksiä ihmisten perusolemuksesta ja yhteiskunnan perustasta; sarjaa voi pitää filosofisena ajatuskokeena, jolla testataan, miten erilaiset näkemykset toimisivat luonnontilaan paluun jälkeen. Artikkelimme lähtökohta on, että zombikuvasto tarjoaa hedelmällisen tilaisuuden filosofiselle analyysille. Tarkastelemme yhteisku…
Epidemiology of Mantle Cell Lymphoma: A Population-Based Study in France
2011
Abstract Abstract 5222 Introduction: Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is an aggressive and rare B-cell lymphoma entity representing around 5–8% of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas in adults. To our knowledge no data is available on the epidemiology of MCL in France. We aimed to describe incidence, survival and main clinical characteristics of MCL in a French population. Methods: Patients diagnosed with MCL were identified in three administrative areas covered by an haematological malignancies registry: the Côte d'Or (from 1988 to 2008), the Basse-Normandie (from 1997 to 2006) and the Gironde (from 2002 to 2006). Main clinical features and management characteristics were collected. World age-standardised …
Epidemiology of childhood cancer
2010
The present contribution reports childhood cancer incidence and survival rates as well as time trends and geographical variation. The report is based on the databases of population-based cancer registries which joined forces in cooperative projects such as Automated Childhood Cancer Information System (ACCIS) and EUROCARE. According to these data, which refer to the International Classification of Childhood Cancer, leukemias, at 34%, brain tumors, at 23%, and lymphomas, at 12%, represent the largest diagnostic groups among the under 15-year-olds. The most frequent single diagnoses are: acute lymphoblastic leukemia, astrocytoma, neuroblastoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and nephroblastoma. There …
Long-term decrease in sex-specific natural mortality of European lobster within a marine protected area
2013
Marine protected areas (MPAs) and marine reserves hold promise as tools for nature conservation and fisheries management, but data on long-term demographic effects are still sparse. Here, we use a unique capture-mark-recapture data set from Kavra, an MPA on the west coast of Sweden where fishing for European lobster Homarus gammarus has been banned since 1989, to directly quantify annual survival probabilities in the absence of harvest mortality. The non-migratory behaviour of this species allowed multiple recaptures and releases of a large num- ber of individuals within the MPA. We found strong evidence for a long-term decrease in sex - specific natural mortality throughout the study perio…
Erfahrungstransfer aus der Schweiz an das nationalsozialistische Deutschland. Ricarda Huchs Frühling in der Schweiz
2020
The article presents Ricarda Huchs attitude towards the dictatorship of natio- nal socialism in Germany, from which the writer officially disbanded herself in 1933 by resigning from the membership of the Prussian Academy of Fine Arts and concluding at the same time that the Germanness in her opinion does not mean centralization of power, brutal methods and diffusion of people who think differently. This attitude is reflected in the autobiographical text of 1938, Friihling in der Schweiz [Spring in Switzerland] which refers to the experiences and observations of the writer during her stay in Switzerland in 1887-1896. Those memoirs serve as a kind of political message which simultaneously sho…
EZH2 mutations are frequent and represent an early event in follicular lymphoma
2013
Gain of function mutations in the H3K27 methyltransferase EZH2 represent a promising therapeutic target in germinal center lymphomas. In this study, we assessed the frequency and distribution of EZH2 mutations in a large cohort of patients with follicular lymphoma (FL) (n = 366) and performed a longitudinal analysis of mutation during the disease progression from FL to transformed FL (tFL) (n = 33). Mutations were detected at 3 recurrent mutation hot spots (Y646, A682, and A692) in 27% of FL cases with variant allele frequencies (VAF) ranging from 2% to 61%. By comparing VAF of EZH2 with other mutation targets (CREBBP, MLL2, TNFRSF14, and MEF2B), we were able to distinguish patients harbori…
