No significant improvement in water diuresis was obtained by the s. c. injection of 500–1000 mU/kg of a synthetic oxytocin preparation (Syntocinon) in adrenalectomized, salt-maintained rats given 18 ml of water per rat by stomach tube. In these animals oxytocin had, on the other hand, a strong natriuretic and chloruretic effect.

1. Undesired effects of cancer radiotherapy mainly affect the hematopoietic system. Growth hormone (GH) participates in both hematopoiesis and modulation of the immune response. We report both r-hGH cell death prevention and restoration of secretory capacities of irradiated human peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) in vitro. 2. r-hGH induced cell survival and increased proliferation of irradiated cells. 1. Central administration of bombesin inhibits gastric acid production independently of the centrally or peripherally-acting stimuli employed. This study evaluates the role and location of the cerebral nitric oxide (NO) implicated in the inhibitory effect of central bombesin on in vivo rat gastric acid secretion, as induced by distension with 15 cm H2O, insulin (0.75 u.i. kg-1 i.p.) Variations of plas14a benin activity and aldostehone levels in the rat after administration of saline, chrystalloid and colloid solutions

Abstract The data reported in the present paper refer to quantitative variations of plasma renin activity (PRA.) and of plasma aldosterone levels in rats after adiministration of saline, chrystalloid and colloid solutions. In our experimental conditions PRA and plasma aldosterone levels were shown to increase significantly after administration of distilled water and glucose solution. Variations of PRA and plasma aldosterone levels were only slight when plasma volume was made to increase due to administration of polyvinylpirrolidone solution. PRA, instead, was significantly lower in rats having received saline salution.

Cyromazine, an insect growth regulator, affects larval and pupal cuticles in dipterans and some other insects. The mode of action of this aminotriazine is not known yet, though it has been shown not to inhibit the synthesis of chitin and cuticular proteins. Cyromazine may, however, act on some step(s) of sclerotization of the cuticle. Aphids were the first animals described as photoperiodic due to their seasonal switch from viviparous parthenogenesis to sexual reproduction (cyclical parthenogenesis) caused by the shortening of the photoperiod in autumn. Instabilities of infinite matter with effective Skyrme-type interactions

The stability of the equation of state predicted by Skyrme-type interactions is examined. We consider simultaneously symmetric nuclear matter and pure neutron matter. The stability is defined by the inequalities that the Landau parameters must satisfy simultaneously. A systematic study is carried out to define interaction parameter domains where the inequalities are fulfilled. It is found that there is always a critical density $\rho_{cr}$ beyond which the system becomes unstable.
