Scarpa. Una cerniera spaziale per lo Steri

2018

Housing affordability nelle regioni urbane. Una proposta metodologica per definire il reddito soglia

2018

Within context of urban disintegration and social fragmentation, the concept of post-metropolis induces to critically consider the typical dichotomy between centre and periphery. Even in marginal areas where metropolis did not develop according to traditional stages and classical models, the traditional analytical categories are no longer able to interpret the widespread phenomenon of regional urbanization. In any case, the large urban regions are recognized by some authors not only as driving-force of the global economy, but also as the main sources of inequality and of social/environmental injustice; places where the gap between high and low income of social groups has been exacerbated. I…

Proba-V cloud detection Round Robin: Validation results and recommendations

2017

This paper discusses results from 12 months of a Round Robin exercise aimed at the inter-comparison of different cloud detection algorithms for Proba-V. Clouds detection is a critical issue for satellite optical remote sensing, since potential errors in cloud masking directly translates into significant uncertainty in the retrieved downstream geophysical products. Cloud detection is particularly challenging for Proba-V due to the presence of a limited number of spectral bands and the lack of thermal infrared bands. The main objective of the project was the inter-comparison of several cloud detection algorithms for Proba-V over a wide range of surface types and environmental conditions. Prob…

Survey of the mean pressure exerted by a wide range of tractors on the soil

2010

In order to predict the mean pressure exerted by a vehicle tyre on the soil, in 1984 Plackett suggested measuring the contact area of a tyre on a hard surface. The model proposed by Hallonborg in 1996, based on the “super ellipse theory”, provided the best results in terms of prediction of the tyre-soil contact area. In this study 82 4WD tractors with different power, mass and age of manufacture were surveyed. Relying on their technical features, the contact area of the front and rear tyres of each tractor and, therefore, their pressure on the soil was calculated, in order to assess the attention paid by manufacturers to soil compaction. The results of this survey showed that the mean press…

Advantages of binaural hearing provided through bimodal stimulation via a cochlear implant and a conventional hearing aid: a 6-month comparative stud…

2005

Our study data demonstrate the additional benefit derived from continued use of a contralateral hearing aid (HA) post-cochlear implantation for speech recognition ability in quiet and in noise. Postoperative bimodal stimulation is recommended for all subjects who show some speech recognition ability in the contralateral ear as it may offer binaural listening advantages in various listening situations encountered in everyday life.To assess the benefits derived from bimodal stimulation for experienced HA users implanted with a cochlear implant (CI) (score=20% in disyllabic test). The correlation between pre- and postoperative performance on speech perception measures was examined to determine…

Disordered and Frustrated Spin Systems

2007

A brief review on the effects of quenched disorder on magnetic ordering is given. This disorder can be due to dilution of a ferro- or antiferromagnetic crystal with nonmagnetic atoms, or due to noncrystallinity (amorphous magnetic systems). This disorder in the positions of the magnetic atoms leads to disorder in the exchange interactions between spins. If the disorder is sufficiently weak, the critical temperature of magnetic ordering is somewhat decreased, and the critical behavior may change, but the nature of ordering is maintained. However, if the disorder is sufficiently strong, magnetic long-range order may disappear altogether at a percolation threshold, or a new type of order may a…

Automatische Berechnung des Milzvolumens aus Spiral-CT-Daten mit Hilfe neuronaler Netze und „Fuzzy Logik”∗

2000

PURPOSE To assess spleen segmentation and volumentry in spiral CT scans with and without pathological changes of splenic tissue. METHODS The image analysis software HYBRIKON is based on region growing, self-organized neural nets, and fuzzy-anatomic rules. The neural nets were trained with spiral CT data from 10 patients, not used in the following evaluation on spiral CT scans from 19 patients. An experienced radiologist verified the results. The true positive and false positive areas were compared in terms to the areas marked by the radiologist. The results were compared with a standard thresholding method. RESULTS The neural nets achieved a higher accuracy than the thresholding method. Cor…

Haastateltavat toimivat haastattelujen aikana jääkiekon parissa Sveitsin NLA-liigassa. Tutkielman näkökulmaksi rajautui siis suomalaisiin jääkiekkotoimijoihin Sveitsissä. Haastattelujen toteuttamiseen sain rahallista avustusta SVFF-yhdistykseltä Sveitsistä. Haastattelut käytiin suomeksi. Aineisto käsiteltiin laadullisen sisällönanalyysin keinoin. Kiinnostus aiheeseen syntyi tehdessän…

Importance of the Window Function Choice for the Predictive Modelling of Memristors

2021

Window functions are widely employed in memristor models to restrict the changes of the internal state variables to specified intervals. Here, we show that the actual choice of window function is of significant importance for the predictive modelling of memristors. Using a recently formulated theory of memristor attractors, we demonstrate that whether stable fixed points exist depends on the type of window function used in the model. Our main findings are formulated in terms of two memristor attractor theorems, which apply to broad classes of memristor models. As an example of our findings, we predict the existence of stable fixed points in Biolek window function memristors and their absenc…
