Address Event Representation (AER) approach to resistive sensor arrays

Address event representation (AER) has become an excellent strategy when approaching traditional frame based applications, mainly vision sensors. In this paper, and Within this scope, the potential of the AER paradigm is demonstrated when considering resistive (non-vision) sensor arrays. For showing quantitative evidences, MOS AMS 0.35 μm versions of some of the circuit cells typically used in AER systems, such as Winner-Take-All (WTA) circuits, have been implemented and analyzed. In these unit-cells, basic resistance-controlled sources are considered as per sensing devices. Preliminary simulation results demonstrate that this approach is valid for a wide range of resistive sensors.

Microscale Marangoni actuation: All-optical and all-electrical methods

We present experimental results from an all-optical microfluidic platform that may be complimented by a thin film all-electrical network. Using these configurations we have studied the microfluidic convective flow systems of silicone oil, glycerol, and 1,3,5-trinitrotoluene on open surfaces through the production of surface tension gradients derived from thermal gradients. We show that sufficient localized thermal variation can be created utilizing surface plasmons and/or engaging individually addressable resistive thermal elements. Typing of KIR genes in unrelated hematopoietic stem cell transplants: influence of the donor KIR genotype on the outcome of the transplant.

In recent years, the anti-leukemic potential of Natural Killer (NK) cells and their role in hematologic malignancies and in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplants (HSCT) has attracted greater interest and a recent study by Cooley S. et al. showed a better clinical outcome when patients with Acute Myeloid Leukemia received a transplant from unrelated Group B KIR haplotypes donors. For studies of the evolution of development in angiosperms, early‐diverging eudicot taxa are of particular interest for comparisons with established core eudicot model plants, such as Arabidopsis. Here we provide a detailed description of shoot and floral development of the basal eudicot California poppy (Eschscholzia californica). Rosette formation in the vegetative phase is accompanied by increased leaf complexity and shoot apex size. The aim of the present study was to investigate on the suitability of the sea urchin as a sentinel organism for the assessment of the macro-zoobenthos health state in bio-monitoring programmes. A field study was carried out during two oceanographic campaigns using immuno-competent cells, the coelomocytes, from sea urchins living in a marine protected area. AbstractThe large L envelope protein of the hepatitis B virus has the peculiar capacity to adopt two transmembrane topologies. The N-terminal preS domain of L initially remains in the cytosol while the S domain is cotranslationally inserted into the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. The preS region of about half of the L molecules is posttranslationally translocated to the lumenal space. We now demonstrate that the repression of cotranslational translocation of preS is conferred by a preS1-specific sequence. Little is known about host cell factors necessary for hepatitis B virus (HBV) assembly which involves envelopment of cytosolic nucleocapsids by the S, M and L transmembrane viral envelope proteins and subsequent budding into intraluminal cisternae. Central to virogenesis is the L protein that mediates hepatocyte receptor binding and envelopment of capsids. To serve these topologically conflicting roles, L protein exhibits an unusual dual membrane topology, disposing its N-terminal preS domain inside and outside of the virion lipid envelope. Macrophage MerTK promotes profibrogenic cross-talk with hepatic stellate cells via soluble mediators

Background & aims: Activation of Kupffer cells and recruitment of monocytes are key events in fibrogenesis. These cells release soluble mediators which induce the activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), the main fibrogenic cell type within the liver. Mer tyrosine kinase (MerTK) signaling regulates multiple processes in macrophages and has been implicated in the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis-related fibrosis. Identification in the rat brain of a set of nuclear proteins interacting with H1° mRNA

Synthesis of H1° histone, in the developing rat brain, is also regulated at post-transcriptional level. Regulation of RNA metabolism depends on a series of RNA-binding proteins (RBPs); therefore, we searched for H1° mRNA-interacting proteins. With this aim, we used in vitro transcribed, biotinylated H1° RNA as bait to isolate, by a chromatographic approach, proteins which interact with this mRNA, in the nuclei of brain cells. An HLLC Riemann solver for resistive relativistic magnetohydrodynamics

We present a new approximate Riemann solver for the augmented system of equations of resistive relativistic magnetohydrodynamics (RRMHD) that belongs to the family of Harten-Lax-van Leer contact wave (HLLC) solvers. In HLLC solvers, the solution is approximated by two constant states flanked by two shocks separated by a contact wave. The accuracy of the new approximate solver is calibrated through one- and two-dimensional test problems.
