Conflitto e bilanciamento tra diritti fondamentali. Una mappa dei problemi
2007
In the current jurisprudential debate, the issue of conflicts of rights is a widely debated one. The present essay aims at clarifying the main aspects of this ongoing debate, along the following lines: firstly, an historical account of the problem of balancing conflicting rights will be given, with an eye both to the American recent experience and to the Italian one. Secondly, it will be discussed whether and under what circumstances rights can conflict. Thirdly, after having acknowledged that conflicts of rights are in fact unavoidable, it will be necessary to examine the main technique of solving those conflicts: namely, the “weighing and balancing” technique. The main suggestion that is …
Perceptions, motives, and psychological flexibility associated with weight management
2012
Introduction: Overweight people are often able to lose weight with the help of professionals, but majority (about 85 %) of the weight losers fail to maintain behavioral changes that would lead to favorable results in the long term [1‐3]. Studies suggest that obesity treatment failures may reflect motivational and contextual impediments to weight loss, rather than limitations of the behavior change strategies per se [4, 5]. A stronger emphasis on motivational factors within a behavioral weight maintenance program offers promise for improving long-term outcomes. The motivation-focused approach has been shown to be as effective as the successful standard skill-based method in weight maintenanc…
Free school fruit: can an extra piece of fruit every school day contribute to the prevention of future weight gain? A cluster randomized trial
2014
Background: Several school fruit programs are initiated with the aim to improve diet and thereby contribute to reduce the prevalence of overweight. To date, no published studies have demonstrated that school fruit schemes do prevent overweight. Objective: The aim of the present study was to assess if increased consumption of fruits and vegetables, due to free school fruit, have an impact on future weight status.Design: An intervention study including 10- to 12-year-old children from nine schools in two Norwegian counties (Hedmark and Telemark) participating in the Norwegian School Fruit Program for free during the school year 2001/2002 and children from 29 control schools. Follow-up studies …
Pleasure or health: Do children have to choose?
2017
International audience; Pleasure from eating is known to be a strong predictor of children’s food choices. Yet, children’s food preferences generally do not align with dietary recommendations, children rate energy-dense foods as the most liked and vegetables the least liked. In order to incite children to adopt a healthy diet, parents, caregivers, and national campaigns put forward nutritional arguments. However, there is limited research regarding the impact of the level of nutritional concern on children’s food choices, especially compared to pleasure-oriented goals. This talk is an overview of the research work I have conducted during my PhD, and explores the relationships between childr…
A web-based and mobile intervention with brochure support providing complementary feeding guidelines to first-time parents in France: Randomized Cont…
2023
Purpose: In light of the latest epidemiological and nutritional knowledge and scientific evidence supporting responsive feeding, the French feeding guidelines for 0-3 years were recently updated and nationally disseminated through a brochure and media campaign by Santé publique France. Moreover, smartphone apps become increasingly popular and is likely relevant to provide timely information across development to inform parents about child feeding practices but their effect is seldom evaluated. This randomized controlled trial (RCT) aims to investigate whether the provision of guidelines through an app and a brochure (vs. brochure alone, usual service) results in healthier parental feeding p…

Evaluation of lateral ankle instability with weight-bearing MRI. Preliminary Experience
2009
PURPOSE/INTRODUCTION: To assess the usefulness of weight-bearing examination of the ankle performed with a dedicated MRI scanner in the evaluation of patients with clinical evidence of lateral ankle instability. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated ankle MR examinations of 18 patients, performed between September 2008 and January 2009. Spin echo T1W, Turbo Spine Echo T2W, 3D Steady-State (SSE) and Short Tau Inversion Recovery (STIR) images were acquired with a 0.2 T scanner (G-Scan, Esaote Spa, Genoa, Italy) in both weight-bearing position and normal conventional supine position. A dedicated extremities receiver coil was used. If present, signs of instability and ligament sig…
Relazioni tra parametri biometrici in Marthasterias glacialis (L.) (Asteroidea)
2013
Biometric parameters of the Asteroid echinoderm Marthasterias glacialis (L.) were measured at Ustica Island MPA (SW Tyrrhenian Sea). Wet weight was correlated with tip-to-tip (arm-span) diameter, central disk, arm length, arm width and arm height. Results show high positive correlation between weight and arm height, suggesting a new useful method to estimate starfish size also for in situ measurements.
Weighted and unweighted distances based decision tree for ranking data
2018
Preference data represent a particular type of ranking data (widely used in sports, web search, social sciences), where a group of people gives their preferences over a set of alternatives. Within this framework, distance-based decision trees represent a non-parametric tool for identifying the profiles of subjects giving a similar ranking. This paper aims at detecting, in the framework of (complete and incomplete) ranking data, the impact of the differently structured weighted distances for building decision trees. The traditional metrics between rankings don’t take into account the importance of swapping elements similar among them (element weights) or elements belonging to the top (or to …
