The effectiveness of leadership development in the military context from a gender viewpoint

In this case study, leadership development is investigated from the viewpoint of women in a military context. In particular, the effectiveness of a leadership development program in a specific context, namely the Finnish Defence Forces, is explored. The program being studied is unique because it is concerned with developing volunteers, not professional soldiers. A longitudinal, interview-based study of the topic was conducted with women who had participated in the program. The data consists of 45 open-ended interviews with 15 women. Abstract Background At the onset, differentiation between abnormal non-epileptic movements, and epileptic seizures presenting in early life is difficult as is clinical diagnosis and prognostic evaluation of the various seizure disorders presenting at this age. Masculinity in flux? : Male managers navigating between work and family

The article sheds light on male managers’ experience as fathers in a post-Soviet context in Lithuania. This empirical study of 12 male managers’ experiences of work-family integration (WFI), their ways of coping with negative experiences, and the role of organizations in reducing conflict and enriching WFI, reveal the emergence of a new paternal identity: fathers who perceive their role as caregivers but for whom this is still subordinate to the dominant role of the breadwinner. Relying on their wife is a man’s dominant coping strategy. Organizations are perceived as family unfriendly. The managerial implications of the need for organizational support are discussed. peerReviewed

Tämän tutkielman tavoitteena oli ymmärtää alaisten kokeman työn imun rakentumista osana johtajan ja alaisen välistä vuorovaikutusta. Tavoitteena oli kuvata ja ymmärtää alaisten kokemuksia siitä, millainen johtamisviestintä luo ja vahvistaa alaisten kokemaa työn imua sekä millainen johtamisviestinä puolestaan heikentää alaisten työn imun kokemusta. Lisäksi pyrittiin ymmärtämään johtajan vuorovaikutuksen merkitystä ja roolia alaisten kokemusten rakentumisessa. Kuntien sote-menot ovat yli puolet kuntien käyttökustannuksista ja siksi sote-palveluiden tuottamiseen etsitään uusia kustannustehokkaampia tapoja. Kes-keiseksi hallituksen teemaksi on noussut asiakkaan valinnanvapaus terveys- ja sosiaalipalveluja valittaessa. Palveluseteli on yksi tapa toteuttaa asiakkaan va-linnanvapautta sote-palveluissa.
