Hyperfine structure of the 3d34s4p6G multiplet of atomic vanadium

2011

The spectrum of atomic vanadium was recorded using high-resolution Fourier transform spectroscopy with optical bandpass filters in the wavelength range from 360 to 500 nm. Vanadium atoms are produced and excited in a hollow-cathode discharge. The main focus lies on the determination of the magnetic dipole hyperfine constants A of the lowest multiplet of odd parity, the 6G of the configuration 3d34s4p, the hyperfine structure (HFS) of which was unknown to date. The HFS of the lines, connecting this multiplet with the multiplets 3d34s5s 6F, 3d34s4d 6H and 3d34s4d 6G, was observed and analysed. New results are presented for all six levels belonging to 3d34s4p 6G as well as for seven high-lying…

Doppler free ?dark resonances? for hyperfine measurements and isotope shifts in Ca+ isotopes in a Paul trap

1995

We have observed “dark resonances” in theA-type level structure, formed by the 4S1/2 ground state, the 4P1/2 excited state and the low lying metastable 3D3/2 state in the Calcium ion, confined in a Paul radio-frequency trap. These Doppler-free and potentially very narrow resonances were used to determine the magnetic dipole hyperfine interaction constant A for the 4P1/2 and 3D3/2 state of43Ca+, giving −142(8) MHz and −48.3(1.6) MHz, respectively. From measurements of the P-D (E1) and S-D (E2) transition wavelength in a mixture of43Ca+ and40Ca+ we determined the isotope shifts of these lines.

Possibility of measuring the amount of intergalactic metals with 14N VII HFS line

2009

AbstractWe discuss possibility of observations of the warm-hot intergalactic medium using the hyperfine structure line of highly charged nitrogen ion 14N VII (rest wavelength λ = 5.652 mm). Observations of this line will allow to separate bulk and turbulent motions in the observed target and will broaden the information about the gas ionization state, chemical and isotopic composition.Wavelength of this line is well-suited for ground-based observation of objects at z ≈ 0.15 − 0.6 when it is redshifted to the widely-used 6.5 − 9 mm spectral band, and, for example, for z ≥ 1.3, when the line can be observed in 1.3 cm band and at lower frequencies.

Hyperfine measurements in a storage ring

1995

Starting with a look at the outstanding role of the hydrogen atom in modern physics, this work reviews aspects of an extension of precision spectroscopy to the ground-state hyperfine structure of highly charged hydrogenic ions. In this connection, the preferences of heavy-ion storage rings are outlined and illuminated by the laser-spectroscopic measurement (the first of that kind) of the 1s hyperfine splitting of 209Bi82+, stored in the heavy-ion storage ring at GSI. The experimental results, including the mean lifetime of the upper 1s substate, are compared with the presently available theoretical calculations. The relevance of studying further hydrogenicc ions in the vicinity of the doubl…

Fourth-order relativistic corrections to electrical first-order properties using direct perturbation theory.

2011

In this work, we present relativistic corrections to first-order electrical properties obtained using fourth-order direct perturbation theory (DPT4) at the Hartree-Fock level. The considered properties, i.e., dipole moments and electrical-field gradients, have been calculated using numerical differentiation techniques based on a recently reported DPT4 code for energies [S. Stopkowicz and J. Gauss, J. Chem. Phys. 134, 064114 (2011)]. For the hydrogen halides HX, X=F, Cl, Br, I, and At, we study the convergence of the scalar-relativistic contributions by comparing the computed DPT corrections to results from spin-free Dirac-Hartree-Fock calculations. Furthermore, since in the DPT series spin-…

Atomic transitions of Rb, D2 line in strong magnetic fields: Hyperfine Paschen–Back regime

2014

An efficient $\lambda/2$-method ($\lambda$ is the resonant wavelength of laser radiation) based on nanometric-thickness cell filled with rubidium is implemented to study the splitting of hyperfine transitions of $^{85}$Rb and $^{87}$Rb $D_2$ lines in an external magnetic field in the range of $B =3$~kG -- 7~kG. It is experimentally demonstrated that at $B > 3$~kG from 38 (22) Zeeman transitions allowed at low $B$-field in $^{85}$Rb ($^{87}$Rb) spectra in the case of $\sigma^+$ polarized laser radiation there remain only 12 (8) which is caused by decoupling of the total electronic momentum $\textbf{J}$ and the nuclear spin momentum $\textbf{I}$ (hyperfine Paschen-Back regime). Note that at $…

Hyperfine Paschen-Back regime in alkali metal atoms: consistency of two theoretical considerations and experiment

2013

Simple and efficient "\lambda-method" and "\lambda/2-method" (\lambda is the resonant wavelength of laser radiation) based on nanometric-thickness cell filled with rubidium are implemented to study the splitting of hyperfine transitions of 85Rb and 87Rb D_1 line in an external magnetic field in the range of B = 0.5 - 0.7 T. It is experimentally demonstrated from 20 (12) Zeeman transitions allowed at low B-field in 85Rb (87Rb) spectra in the case of \sigma+ polarized laser radiation, only 6 (4) remain at B > 0.5 T, caused by decoupling of the total electronic momentum J and the nuclear spin momentum I (hyperfine Paschen-Back regime). The expressions derived in the frame of completely uncoupl…

High-precision hyperfine spectroscopy inM1-M1 double-resonance transitions on trappedPb+207

1992

Optical pumping of the ground state of $^{207}\mathrm{Pb}^{+}$ ions, confined in a Paul ion trap on the weak 6${\mathit{P}}_{1/2\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$6${\mathit{P}}_{3/2}$ M1 transition at \ensuremath{\lambda}=710 nm, and consequent magnetic-dipole transitions between the ground-state hyperfine Zeeman levels have resulted in an A factor of 12 968 180 601.61(0.22) Hz and linewidth of 0.5 Hz. The value includes corrections of Zeeman shifts from residual magnetic fields and second-order Doppler shifts in the several-eV-deep trap potential, while the ions were cooled by He buffer gas. Two M1 quanta have been applied simultaneously in a double-resonance experiment.

Electric field induced hyperfine level-crossings in (nD)Cs at two-step laser excitation: experiment and theory

2005

The pure electric field level-crossing of m_F Zeeman sublevels of hyperfine F levels at two-step laser excitation was described theoretically and studied experimentally for the nD_3/2 states in Cs with n = 7,9, and 10, by applying a diode laser in the first 6S_1/2 to 6P_3/2 step and a diode or dye laser for the second 6P_3/2 to nD_3/2 step. Level-crossing resonance signals were observed in the nD_3/2 to 6P_1/2 fluorescence. A theoretical model was developed to describe quantitatively the resonance signals by correlation analysis of the optical Bloch equations in the case when an atom simultaneously interacts with two laser fields in the presence of an external dc electric field. The simulat…

Hyperfine structure measurements in the

1997

Clouds of stable and unstable Eu+ isotopes have been confined in a Paul trap, each containing about 105 particles. In a microwave-optical double resonance experiment several hyperfine separations in the 4f7 6s 7S3 exited level have been measured with the experimental uncertainties ranging between 10-8 and 3×10-6. These experiments have confirmed that also in the case of an excited level with a large number of hyperfine or Zeeman sublevels the microwave-optical double resonance technique in a Paul trap can be useful for precise hyperfine structure investigation. The hyperfine coupling constants A and B have been determined for the isotopes 153Eu+, 151Eu+, 150Eu+ and 148Eu+. The results compl…
