Premeditated automaticity : the role of explicit cognition in the development of obsessive smoking

- Abstract The purpose of the present study was to examine the role of explicit cognitions in relation to the development of obsessive smoking passion. Data derives from a longitudinal internet survey conducted among 939 daily smokers over a period of four months. Mental representations were the strongest predictor of obsessive smoking passion (ß=.47, p<.001) followed by habit strength (ß=.25, p<.001) and number of cigarettes smoked (ß=.09, p<.01). Altogether the variables accounted for 48% of the variance in obsessive smoking passion. Gobio Genus Species Integrated Management System – Târnava Rivers Study Case (Transylvania, Romania)

Abstract The lotic habitats quality indicative congeners species Gobio gobio, Gobio kessleri and Gobio albipinnatus populations’ dynamic in time (2004-2019) and space revealed a decreasing trend in these rivers ecological status. The ADONIS:CE tool has been used to build a backing management system model, based on these indicative fish species habitat needs, indicators for favourable conservation status, pressures and threats. This management system implementation in the field will favour the amelioration of lotic habitats and the ecological status recovering of two of the local fish species of conservative interest (G. kessleri and G. albipinnatus).
Flash-Floods Influence Macroinvertebrate Communities Distribution in Lotic Ecosystems

Abstract Stream dwelling invertebrate populations are facing an ample array of stressors including the habitat imbalance caused by important floods. In this research we used a novel way to estimate the impact of floods upon the substrate, by utilising a remote variable named “flash-flood potential” (FFP), which accounts for the site slope and the average slope of the upstream catchment. The results showed that certain groups are sensitive to the influence of the FFP whereas other are not. We propose this remote variable as a surrogate for assessing stress imposed by floods and sediment scouring for lotic macroinvertebrates.
Habitat geometry of benthic substrata: effects on arrival and settlement of mobile epifauna

Abstract The effect of substratum complexity on the early stages of colonization by mobile epifauna was assessed through a comparative study based on the architecture of artificial substrata. We conducted field observations over 4 years, on six types of small plastic substrata placed in the low intertidal zone of an exposed rocky shore, for varied immersion periods (1, 2, 4 and 12 wk). The present work was undertaken to evaluate the contribution of migratory birds in the environmental dissemination of yeasts. Four sites (Mazara del Vallo, Lampedusa, Ustica and Linosa), representing the main stop-over points in Sicily, were analysed during spring and autumnal bird migration and 349 birds (belonging to 10 families) were ringed and analysed for yeast presence. Invertebrate aquatic assemblages in ponds from Mediterranean wetlands are composed of organisms belonging to different taxonomic groups, which present a wide range of sizes (from small rotifers to large crustaceans or insects). Although they are often sampled and analyzed separately, the ecological links among these organisms should be considered, especially in very shallow waters.
