Crystal structure of the pyridine–diiodine (1/1) adduct
2015
In the title adduct, C5H5N·I2, the N—I distance [2.424 (8) Å] is remarkably shorter than the sum of the van der Waals radii. The line through the I atoms forms an angle of 78.39 (16)° with the normal to the pyridine ring.
Halogen Bonds in 2,5-Dihalopyridine-Copper(I) Halide Coordination Polymers
2019
Two series of 2,5-dihalopyridine-Cu(I)A (A = I, Br) complexes based on 2-X-5-iodopyridine and 2-X-5-bromopyridine (X = F, Cl, Br and I) are characterized by using single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis to examine the nature of C2&minus
The C–I・・・⁻O–N⁺ Halogen Bonds with Tetraiodoethylene and Aromatic N-oxides
2020
The nature of C–I⋯⁻O–N⁺ interactions, first of its kind, between non-fluorinated tetraiodoethylene XB-donor and pyridine N-oxides (PyNO) are studied by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. Despite the non-fluorinated nature of the C2I4, the I⋯O halogen bond distances are similar to well-known perfluorohaloalkane/-arene donor-PyNO analogues. With C2I4, oxygens of the N-oxides adopt exclusively 2-XB-coordination in contrast to the versatile bonding modes observed with perfluorinated XB-donors. The C2I4 as the XB donor forms with PyNO’s one-dimensional chain polymer structures in which the C2I4⋯(μ-PyNO)2⋯C2I4 segments manifesting two bondin…
(2-Pyridyl)sulfonyl Groups for ortho -Directing Palladium- Catalyzed Carbon-Halogen Bond Formation at Functionalized Arenes
2017
International audience; We describe an efficient palladium-catalyzed selective C-H ortho-monohalogenation (X=I, Br, Cl, F) of various functionalized (2-pyridyl) aryl-sulfones. ortho-, meta-and para-functionalization is tolerated at the arene group which undergoes C-H halogenation. Some modifications are also possible on the 2-(arylsulfonyl) heteroaryl directing groups. A comparison of the halogenation efficiency suggests that bromination is the practical method of choice, while chlorination and fluorination are possible but more challenging. Under forcing conditions ortho-dihalogenation can also be achieved.
High-spectral-resolution Fabry-Pérot interferometers overcome fundamental limitations of present volcanic gas remote sensing techniques
2023
Remote sensing (RS) of volcanic gases has become a central tool for studying volcanic activity. For instance, ultraviolet (UV) skylight spectroscopy with grating spectrographs (GS) enables SO2 (and, under favourable conditions, BrO) quantification in volcanic plumes from autonomous platforms at safe distances. These measurements can serve volcanic monitoring and they cover all stages of volcanic activity in long measurement time series, which substantially contributes to the refinement of theories on volcanic degassing. Infrared (IR) remote sensing techniques are able to measure further volcanic gases (e.g., HF, HCl, CO2, CO). However, the employed Fourier transform spectrometers (FTSs) are…
The Effect of Halogen Bonding on the Packing of Bromine Substituted Pyridine and Benzyl Functionalized Resorcinarene Tetrapodands in the Solid State
2012
The synthesis and characterization of new bromine-substituted pyridine and benzyl functionalized tetramethoxy resorcinarene tetrapodands are described and their solid-state structural properties and interactions were studied by single crystal X-ray crystallography. Three different crystal structures were obtained for the pyridine derivative and one for the benzyl derivative, which revealed that the interactions of the bromine substituent have an explicit effect on the crystal packing of the resorcinarene molecules. One of the structures obtained had very interesting halogen–halogen interactions with the same geometry as is generally found for compounds used in nonlinear optical studies. pee…
1,2,6-Thiadiazine 1-Oxides: Unsaturated Three-Dimensional S,N-Heterocycles from Sulfonimidamides.
2020
Unprecedented three-dimensional 1,2,6-thiadiazine 1-oxides have been prepared by an aza-Michael-addition/cyclization/condensation reaction sequence starting from sulfonimidamides and propargyl ketones. The products have been further functionalized by standard cross-coupling reactions, selective bromination of the heterocyclic ring, and conversion into a β-hydroxy substituted derivative. A representative product was characterized by single-crystal X-ray structure analysis. peerReviewed
Tetrameric and Dimeric [N∙∙∙I+∙∙∙N] Halogen-Bonded Supramolecular Cages
2017
Tripodal N‐donor ligands are used to form halogen‐bonded assemblies via structurally analogous Ag+‐complexes. Selective formation of discrete tetrameric I6L4 and dimeric I3L2 halonium cages, wherein multiple [N⋅⋅⋅I+⋅⋅⋅N] halogen bonds are used in concert, can be achieved by using sterically rigidified cationic tris(1‐methyl‐1‐azonia‐4‐azabicyclo[2.2.2]octane)‐mesitylene ligand, L1(PF6)3, and flexible ligand 1,3,5‐tris(imidazole‐1‐ylmethyl)‐2,4,6‐trimethylbenzene, L2, respectively. The iodonium cages, I6L14(PF6)18 and I3L22(PF6)3, were obtained through the [N⋅⋅⋅Ag+⋅⋅⋅N]→ [N⋅⋅⋅I+⋅⋅⋅N] cation exchange reaction between the corresponding Ag6L14(PF6)18 and Ag3L22(PF6)3 coordination cages, prepare…
Evidence of Weak Halogen Bonding: New Insights on Itraconazole and its Succinic Acid Cocrystal
2012
Exact knowledge of the crystal structure of drugs and lead compounds plays a significant role in the fields of crystal engineering, docking, computational modeling (drug–receptor interactions), and rational design of potent drugs in pharmaceutical chemistry. The succinic acid cocrystal of the systemic antifungal drug, itraconazole, reported by Remenar et al. (J. Am. Chem. Soc.2003, 125, 8456–8457) (CSD: IKEQEU), represents one of the classical examples displaying a molecular fitting mechanism in the solid state. In this work, we disclose the X-ray single-crystal structure of the cis-itraconazole–succinic acid (2:1) cocrystal and found that it differs slightly from the previously reported st…
Tunable Interaction Strength and Nature of the S···Br Halogen Bonds in [(Thione)Br2] Systems
2015
The strength and nature of the S···Br and Br···Br interactions were systematically tuned by altering the electron donor properties of the thione group. Three new halogen-bonded compounds, [(N-methylbenzothiazole-2-thione)Br2]·0.5CH2Cl2 (1), [(2(3H)-benzothiazolethione)Br2] (2), and [(2-benzimidazolethione)Br]·[Br3] (3), were synthesized and studied structurally by using X-ray crystallography and computationally by using charge density analysis based on QTAIM calculations. Analysis of the interaction strength indicated a formation of surprisingly strong S···Br halogen bonds in 1 (−104 kJ mol–1, and RBrS = 0.64) and 2 (−116 kJ mol–1, and RBrS = 0.63) with a substantial covalent contribution. …
