Numerical study of the Kadomtsev–Petviashvili equation and dispersive shock waves

A detailed numerical study of the long time behaviour of dispersive shock waves in solutions to the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) I equation is presented. It is shown that modulated lump solutions emerge from the dispersive shock waves. For the description of dispersive shock waves, Whitham modulation equations for KP are obtained. It is shown that the modulation equations near the soliton line are hyperbolic for the KPII equation while they are elliptic for the KPI equation leading to a focusing effect and the formation of lumps. Such a behaviour is similar to the appearance of breathers for the focusing nonlinear Schrodinger equation in the semiclassical limit.
Shock-induced complex phase-space dynamics of strongly turbulent flows

Shock waves have been thoroughly investigated during the last century in many different branches of physics. In conservative (Hamiltonian) systems the shock singularity is regularized by weak wave dispersion, thus leading to the formation of a rapidly and regular oscillating structure, usually termed in the literature dispersive shock wave (DSW), see e.g. [1]. Here, we show that this fundamental singular process of DSW formation can break down in a system of incoherent nonlinear waves. The attention of the writer was attracted by the person of Konrad Mientus, who impressed with his passion of collecting all souvenirs, „props”, which passion became concrete in the form of an extremely valued and constantly visited regional chamber. A passion that was vivid from childhood was emphasized, and many examples of the Silesian regional chamber were referred to. Museum exhibits show the Opole region as a „smali homeland” of Poles and Germans - with all the complexity of the fate of its community, as well as the specificity of the Silesian culture, visible especially in tradition, dia- lect, customs and folk customs.

Ribonuclease H levels in herpes simplex virus-infected cells.

Two forms of ribonuclease H (RNase H) have been identified both in uninfected and Herpes Simplex virus (HSV-)infected BHK cells. Identical RNase H species were detected in control- as well as in infected cells. RNase H I and II have not been found to be associated both with host cell DNA polymerase alpha and beta and HSV-induced DNA polymerase. Infection of BHK cells with HSV type 1 does not lead to a pronounced alteration of RNase H II activity but to an increase (3-fold) of the extractable RNase H I activity. Strong-coupling expansions for the -symmetric oscillators

We study the traditional problem of convergence of perturbation expansions when the hermiticity of the Hamiltonian is relaxed to a weaker symmetry. An elementary and quite exceptional cubic anharmonic oscillator is chosen as an illustrative example of such models. We describe its perturbative features paying particular attention to the strong-coupling regime. Efficient numerical perturbation theory proves suitable for such a purpose.
Correction factors for ionization chamber measurements with the ‘Valencia’ and ‘large field Valencia’ brachytherapy applicators

Treatment of small skin lesions using HDR brachytherapy applicators is a widely used technique. The shielded applicators currently available in clinical practice are based on a tungsten-alloy cup that collimates the source-emitted radiation into a small region, hence protecting nearby tissues. The goal of this manuscript is to evaluate the correction factors required for dose measurements with a plane-parallel ionization chamber typically used in clinical brachytherapy for the 'Valencia' and 'large field Valencia' shielded applicators.
