Computing the Trace

2001

So far we have been interested in the general expression for the WKB-propagation function. Now we turn our attention to the trace of that propagator, since we want to exhibit the energy eigenvalues of a given potential. From earlier discussions we know that the energy levels of a given Hamiltonian are provided by the poles of the Green’s function:

ChemInform Abstract: Magnetic Exchange Between Metal Ions with Unquenched Orbital Angular Momenta: Basic Concepts and Relevance to Molecular Magnetism

2010

This review article is a first attempt to give a systematic and comprehensive description (in the framework of the unified theoretical approach) of the exchange interactions in polynuclear systems based on orbitally degenerate metal ions in the context of their relevance to the modern molecular magnetism. Interest in these systems is related to the fundamental problems of magnetism and at the same time steered by a number of impressive potential applications of molecular magnets, like high-density memory storage units, nanoscale qubits, spintronics and photoswitchable devices. In the presence of orbital degeneracy, the conventional spin Hamiltonian (Heisenberg–Dirac–van Vleck model) becomes…

An Atypical Case of Taravana Syndrome in a Breath-Hold Underwater Fishing Champion: A Case Report

2013

Dysbaric accidents are usually referred to compressed air-supplied diving. Nonetheless, some cases of decompression illness are known to have occurred among breath-hold (BH) divers also, and they are reported in the medical literature. A male BH diver (57 years old), underwater fishing champion, presented neurological disorders as dizziness, sensory numbness, blurred vision, and left frontoparietal pain after many dives to a 30–35 meters sea water depth with short surface intervals. Symptoms spontaneously regressed and the patient came back home. The following morning, pain and neurological impairment occurred again and the diver went by himself to the hospital where he had a generalized to…

Task-Specific Organic Salts and Ionic Liquids Binary Mixtures: A Combination to Obtain 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural From Carbohydrates

2019

The increase in energy demand and depletion of fossil fuels are among major issues of modern society. Valorization and transformation of raw materials in products of industrial value represents a challenge. This justifies the growing interest of scientific research towards the identification of suitable media and methodologies able to pursue above goals, paying attention to matter of sustainability. On this subject, we studied sulfonic-acid functionalized diimidazolium salts as catalysts for the conversion of fructose and sucrose to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) in an ionic liquid mixture. In general, using these salts allowed us to obtain 5-HMF in good yields from both substrates in mild…

Schoolchildren's oral health counselling within the organisational context of public oral health care : applying and developing theoretical and empir…

2007

The purpose of the present series of studies was to examine the counselling communication activities in schoolchildren`s oral health counselling and the organisational context of public oral health care. Four studies based on two datasets were carried out. The counselling follow-up audiotaped data (2002–2003) comprised 97 counselling encounters. Thirty-one 11–13-year-old schoolchildren (n = 31, 15 girls and 16 boys) were included in the counselling sessions that were conducted by four dental hygienists. The organisation data collection (n = 58) was carried out by using a semi-structured questionnaire in 2002. Methods of qualitative content analysis and statistical analysis were applied for …

Testosterone levels are directly related with erectile function and endothelial function in men with intermediate risk according to the Framingham sc…

2014

Background. The value of testosterone levels and erectile dysfunction (ED) as early markers of atherosclerosis is not well understood. Objectives. To analyze the relationship between plasma testosterone levels in men with both endothelial function (F) and ED. Methods. We enrolled 802 asymptomatic, intermediate cardiovascular risk patients, according to the Framingham Risk Score, aged 40 to 80 years, who underwent the study of EF, evaluation of ED and dosage of plasma testosterone. Results. At linear regression, EF (t=9.40; 95% CI from 0.9318 to 1.4234; p<0.0001) and erectile function (t=8.96; 95% CI from 0.7642 to 1.1932; p<0.0001) statistically increased with increasing levels of testoster…

Viljama Šekspīra luga “Hamlets” un tās iestudējumi latviešu teātrī

2016
