APHAMAX® ATTENUATES INFLAMMATORY AND OXIDATIVE STRESS IN 2, 4-DINITROBENZENE SULFONIC ACID-INDUCED COLITIS IN RAT AMELIORATING INTESTINAL FUNCTIONALI…
2021
Accumulating evidences indicate that inflammatory and oxidative stress play an essential role in the pathogenesis and progression of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In IBD the excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitrogen metabolites contribute to tissue injury and could have also a profound impact on gut functions, including motility. We characterised the inflammatory and oxidative condition and the impact on colon motility in an experimental rat model of colitis, the 2, 4-dinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (DNBS)- induced colitis, and we evaluated if oral treatment with a nat- ural extract of Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA) AphaMax®, containing concentrated quantity of AFA…
Chemical Composition of Essential Oils from Athamanta sicula
2008
The genus Athamanta L. (Apiaceae) consists of about nine species, which are distributed mainly in southeastern Europe. Some of the Athamanta species are used in traditional medicine as antiseptics, diuretics, and in the therapy of sclerosis [1]. Phytochemical studies of species from the genus Athamanta report the presence of coumarins [2–5], flavonoids [6], and fatty acids [7]. Athamanta sicula L. is an annual perennial herb, growing to a height of 30 to 100 cm. It occurs in calcareous vertical cliffs 100 meters to 1500 meters above sea level and is widespread in South Italy, particularly in Sicily. In the popular medicine, it is known as “spaccapietre” (rock splitters), and infusions of it…
Generalized hypergeometric functions and the evaluation of scalar one-loop integrals in Feynman diagrams
2000
Present and future high-precision tests of the Standard Model and beyond for the fundamental constituents and interactions in Nature are demanding complex perturbative calculations involving multi-leg and multi-loop Feynman diagrams. Currently, large effort is devoted to the search for closed expressions of loop integrals, written whenever possible in terms of known - often hypergeometric-type - functions. In this work, the scalar three-point function is re-evaluated by means of generalized hypergeometric functions of two variables. Finally, use is made of the connection between such Appell functions and dilogarithms coming from a previous investigation, to recover well-known results.
Binary Hamming codes and Boolean designs
2021
AbstractIn this paper we consider a finite-dimensional vector space $${\mathcal {P}}$$ P over the Galois field $${\text {GF}}(2),$$ GF ( 2 ) , and the family $${\mathcal {B}}_k$$ B k (respectively, $${\mathcal {B}}_k^*$$ B k ∗ ) of all the k-sets of elements of $$\mathcal {P}$$ P (respectively, of $${\mathcal {P}}^*= {\mathcal {P}} \setminus \{0\}$$ P ∗ = P \ { 0 } ) summing up to zero. We compute the parameters of the 3-design $$({\mathcal {P}},{\mathcal {B}}_k)$$ ( P , B k ) for any (necessarily even) k, and of the 2-design $$({\mathcal {P}}^{*},{\mathcal {B}}_k^{*})$$ ( P ∗ , B k ∗ ) for any k. Also, we find a new proof for the weight distribution of the binary Hamming code. Moreover, we…
Melnikov functions and Bautin ideal
2001
The computation of the number of limit cycles which appear in an analytic unfolding of planar vector fields is related to the decomposition of the displacement function of this unfolding in an ideal of functions in the parameter space, called the Ideal of Bautin. On the other hand, the asymptotic of the displacement function, for 1-parameter unfoldings of hamiltonian vector fields is given by Melnikov functions which are defined as the coefficients of Taylor expansion in the parameter. It is interesting to compare these two notions and to study if the general estimations of the number of limit cycles in terms of the Bautin ideal could be reduced to the computations of Melnikov functions for…

Multiple periodic solutions for Hamiltonian systems with not coercive potential
2010
Under an appropriate oscillating behavior of the nonlinear term, the existence of infinitely many periodic solutions for a class of second order Hamiltonian systems is established. Moreover, the existence of two non-trivial periodic solutions for Hamiltonian systems with not coercive potential is obtained, and the existence of three periodic solutions for Hamiltonian systems with coercive potential is pointed out. The approach is based on critical point theorems. © 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
Special Uses of Viscoelastics
2000
The possibilities of viscoelastic use in phacoemulsification will be outlined in the following figures. Many ophthalmic surgeons apply viscoelastic substances in capsulorhexis to achieve a deep anterior chamber and extend the pupillary space (with a small pupil). Care must be taken during injection so that aqueous is permitted to flow out. When using a paracentesis to inject viscoelastic (Fig. 59), it must be big enough to allow aqueous outflow. For complete aqueous exchange in the anterior chamber, it is advisable to inject the viscoelastic into the opposite chamber angle.
Use of SPME extraction to determine organophosphorus pesticides adsorption phenomena in water and soil matrices
2005
Solid-phase micro extraction (SPME) coupled with GC enables rapid and simple analysis of organophosphorus pesticides in a range of complex matrices. Investigations were made into the extraction efficiencies from water of six organophosphorus insecticides (methamidophos, omethoate, dimethoate, parathion methyl, malathion, and parathion ethyl) showing a wide range of polarities. Three SPME fibres coated with different stationary phases, polydimethylsiloxane, polyacrylate, and carbowax-divinylbenzene (CW-DVB), were investigated. Water was spiked with the pesticides at concentrations from 1 to 0.01 µg mL-1, and the solutions used for optimization of the procedure. The CW-DVB fibre, with a 65 µm…
