Validation transculturelle des critères d'évaluation rapportés par le patient dans l'arthrose des membres inférieurs
2010
In joint diseases, Patient-Reported Outcomes (PROs) are now critical outcome measures, required by health authorities and regulatory agencies. Cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the psychometric properties of such PROs are needed in order to use them in international therapeutic trials. Thanks to this complex process of cross-cultural validation, the PRO in the target language can take into account the specific socio-cultural features and the linguistic equivalences. The aim of this thesis was to undertake the cross-cultural validation of PROs specifically developed for knee and hip disorders. After explaining the published recommendations for cross-cultural adaptation and then con…
Is the pelvis-thorax coordination a valuable outcome instrument to assess patients with Hip osteoarthritis?
2020
Objective: The evaluation of the disease severity in hip osteoarthritis (OA) patients being currently based on subjective instruments. It would be of interest to develop more objective instruments, for example based on gait analysis. The aims of this study were to explore if pelvis-thorax coordination parameters could be valuable instrument outcomes to achieve this evaluation by assessing their reliability, discriminant capacity and responsiveness. Methods: Three groups of subjects; healthy, hip OA patients with severe disease (defined as indication to surgery), hip OA patients with less severe disease (no indication to surgery) were included. Hip OA patients with severe disease were evalua…
Obesity and functional gait recovery after total hip and total knee arthroplasties : clinical and biomechanical analysis
2018
Introduction : Body Mass Index (BMI) impact on gait recovery after total hip and total knee arthroplasty (THA and TKA) remains misunderstood. Few studies have analyzed the influence of BMI on the recovery of hip and knee range of motion (ROM) during gait or walking speed after THA and TKA. Our objective was to assess this impact preoperatively and post-operatively using both 3D gait analysis and clinical assessment. Our hypothesis was that obesity (BMI> 30kg /m2) would be a negative factor in the recovery of gait parameters.Material and methods: After conducting a systematic review of the literature on functional recovery after total prostheses of the lower limb (THA and TKA) to ensure the …
Hip muscle function in patients with symptomatic femoroacetabular impingement
2014
Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is a pathomechanical process of the hip joint, which could lead to hip pain and functional disability. Aim of this thesis was to investigate hip muscle function in patients with a symptomatic FAI. Hip muscle function was first investigated before patients underwent any surgical treatment for managing FAI. It was shown that they present with reduced hip muscle strength (i.e., muscle weakness), probably due to hip muscle inhibition. Nevertheless, hip muscle weakness was not associated with exaggerated hip muscle fatigue. Hip muscle strength recovery was then evaluated in a series of patients after hip arthroscopy to treat FAI. These patients demonstrated a g…
