Cardiovascular, ventilatory and total activity responses of brown trout to handling stress

Changes in total activity, heart and ventilation rates were observed in 2-year-old brown trout, following handling stress, using non-contact bioelectronic monitoring equipment. Experiments were carried out in laboratory conditions at water temperatures below 4° C, Transfer between tanks as well as 5 min restraint stress increased the total activity of fish for 24 to 48 h, after which it declined to near the pre-stress level. The transfer and struggle both elevated the heart rate for 3 to 4 days. Ventilation rate was elevated to a maximum of about 30% above the nominal level and recovered within 3 to 4 days. Use of a logistic model to assess spoilage by Byssochlamys fulva in clarified apple juice

Abstract The percentage P (%) of spoiled bottles (n = 40) of clarified apple juice due to Byssochlamys fulva, was modeled by using a logistic model: P = P max 1 + exp ( k ( τ − t ) ) where Pmax (%) the maximum percentage of spoiled bottles, k (h− 1) a slope parameter and τ (h) the time for P = Pmax/2. Bottles of pasteurized apple juice were inoculated with B. fulva IOC 4518 ascospores for low and high initial loads, 4.8 ± 2.3 ascospores/100 mL and 19.3 ± 4.6 ascospores/100 mL respectively and incubated at 21 °C and 30 °C. Little is known about the forces triggering andromonoecy in the Apiaceae. Mutual entity authentication for LTE

In this paper we outline the Authentication and Key Agreement protocol (EPS-AKA) found in Long-Term Evolution (LTE) systems. This architecture is the 3GPP version of a 4G access security architecture. The LTE security architecture is a mature evolved architecture, with both strengths and weaknesses. In this paper we propose an amendment to the EPS-AKA protocol to make it a full mutual (online) entity authentication protocol. We also analyze the proposal, highlighting both the improvements and the drawbacks of the new AKA protocol.

For current cellular networks, two important Quality of Service (QoS) measures are the fractions of new and handoff calls that are blocked due to unavailability of channels. Based on these QoS measures, we propose a queuing network model with impatient users for handoff and new calls in cellular mobile networks. The number of simultaneous calls, that can be supported, is modeled by C identical servers with exponentially distributed session duration for each one of them. Priority is given to handoffs over new calls. We use for that a Guard Channel policy that reserves a set of CH channels for handoff calls, new calls being served at their arrival if there are more than CH available channels.…
