Abstract In antiquity, the harbour-city of Corcyra (modern: Corfu) was a prevailing naval power in the Mediterranean and had several harbours to host a considerable fleet. Today, these harbours are totally or partly silted and concealed under modern urban infrastructure. Comprehensive geoarchaeological studies were conducted on the northeastern fringe of the Analipsis Peninsula where excavations have revealed the archaeological remains of a massive quay wall (Pierri and Arion sites). The article presents the results of an analysis of the surface layer of bottom sediments in the naval harbour in Hel. During field work conducted in June 2013, 54 sediment samples were collected. The aim of the study was to examine magnetic susceptibility of harbour sediment as a parameter determining the degree of anthropopressure. As part of laboratory tests, grain size analysis was performed in order to determine organic matter content and magnetic susceptibility of the sediment. Palermo Open frontier, ossia Palermo come "frontiera" aperta, indaga e propone una risposta progettuale alla problematica relazione di interfaccia tra la città di Palermo ed il suo porto. Il lavoro prende avvio dalla consapevolezza del controverso attuale legame tra la città di Palermo e l'acqua, nonché della complessità ed eterogeneità del tessuto urbano. L'area fulcro del progetto è l'interfaccia Molo Trapezoidale-Piazza Tredici Vittime, nodo fra il progetto di ampliamento del porto crocieristico/spugnoso e la città consolidata, ripensando lo spazio pubblico compreso fra la Cala ed il Castello a Mare, la via F. Crispi e la via Emerico Amari.
