Online Fault Diagnosis System for Electric Powertrains Using Advanced Signal Processing and Machine Learning
2018
Online condition monitoring and fault diagnosis systems are necessary to prevent unexpected downtimes in critical electric powertrains. The machine learning algorithms provide a better way to diagnose faults in complex cases, such as mixed faults and/or in variable speed conditions. Most of studies focus on training phases of the machine learning algorithms, but the development of the trained machine learning algorithms for an online diagnosis system is not detailed. In this study, a complete procedure of training and implementation of an online fault diagnosis system is presented and discussed. Aspects of the development of an online fault diagnosis based on machine learning algorithms are…
Installation and commissioning of the TileCal Read-Out Drivers
2007
TileCal is the hadronic tile calorimeter of the ATLAS experiment at LHC/CERN. The main component of the TileCal back-end electronics is the Read-Out Driver (ROD). The ROD system is placed between the first and the second level trigger and it is the responsible for processing the data gathered by the detector. The principal devices of the RODs are the Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) mounted in the Processing Units (PUs) daughterboards. The architecture and functionality of the RODs are briefly explained. Then, it is presented the ROD system installation in the ATLAS electronics cavern. Currently, the RODs are being used for the detector commissioning. It is detailed the Detector and Verific…
An Effective Satellite Remote Sensing Tool Combining Hardware and Software Solutions
2019
In this paper we propose a new effective remote sensing tool combining hardware and software solutions as an extension of our previous work. In greater detail the tool consists of a low cost receiver subsystem for public weather satellites and a signal and image processing module for several tasks such as signal and image enhancement, image reconstruction and cloud detection. Our solution allows to manage data from satellites effectively with low cost components and portable software solutions. We aim at sampling and processing of the modulated signal entirely in software enabled by Software Defined Radios (SDR) and CPU computational speed overcoming hardware limitation such as high receive…
Bluetooth-3G wireless transmission system for neural signal telemetry
2007
In this contribution a wireless transmission system for neural signals is developed. This system includes data compression algorithms at the information source, namely neural signals recorded by micro-electrode arrays. The signals are transmitted over Bluetooth to a mobile device that, without any processing or storing, retransmits it over 3G to a remote server where signal post-processing and analysis is performed. The overall transmission rate of the system is limited by the Bluetooth link between the information source and the mobile phone, as well as by the limited processing capabilities of the mobile device and also by the 3G-link. Data compression allows the transmission of up to 7 n…
The effects of intensity, frequency, static load, and shore hardness on different parameters in vibration sensitivity measurements.
1987
The effects of shore hardness, static load, frequency, and intensity of vibration on the amplitude and dynamic force effects of vibration were studied in conditions corresponding to those occurring in vibrotactile sensitivity measurements. The measurements were performed on three silicon plates of known shore hardness. The results indicated that the effect of differences in elasticity on the vibration amplitudes was evident at lower frequencies up to about 200 Hz whereas at higher frequencies the amplitudes remained at the same level, regardless of elasticity. On dynamic force the effect of elasticity was observed at all frequencies studied (50-500 Hz). The static load of the contractor had…
Design and Validation of a FPGA-Based HIL Simulator for Minimum Losses Control of a PMSM
2021
This work examines the FPGA programmable logic platforms applied to minimum losses control of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), which represents a flexible solution for the implementation of an advanced digital control algorithm, given their intrinsic parallel structure and the capability to be directly reprogrammable in the field. In particular, design and validation of a FPGA-based Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) simulator is proposed, by investigating about data format, quantization and discretization effects and other issues arising during the experimental validation of a controller prototype, in order to reduce the embedded software development cycle and test control systems. The…
Apnea detection using cardiac rhythm and its hardware implementation
2009
Abstract Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep. Its detection is very important to avoid important disorders in the patients such as daytime fatigue and sleepiness, which might be very dangerous in certain work places. One of the methods to detect apnea is based in the cardiac rhythm, measuring some parameters which indicate the presence of respiration abnormalities. This work describes the used algorithm to detect apnea and its hardware implementation in an FPGA device for real time detection using the electrocardiogram (ECG) signal.
Eroded enamel rehardening using two intraoral appliances designs in different times of salivary exposure.
2019
Background The aim of this study was evaluated the eroded enamel rehardening potential using upper palatal and lower buccal removable appliances in different times of salivary exposure (30 min, 1h, 2h, 12h) after a single erosive challenge event. Material and Methods After initial surface hardness evaluation, bovine enamel blocks were eroded in vitro (0.01 M hydrochloric acid, pH 2.3, 30 seconds), selected (n = 160) and randomly assigned to the two appliance designs and twenty volunteers. Four enamel blocks were inserted in each removable appliance. On the in situ phase, the volunteers were instructed to use the upper palatal and lower buccal appliances simultaneously for 12 nonconsecutive …
Radiation Hardness Assurance Through System-Level Testing: Risk Acceptance, Facility Requirements, Test Methodology, and Data Exploitation
2021
International audience; Functional verification schemes at a level different from component-level testing are emerging as a cost-effective tool for those space systems for which the risk associated with a lower level of assurance can be accepted. Despite the promising potential, system-level radiation testing can be applied to the functional verification of systems under restricted intrinsic boundaries. Most of them are related to the use of hadrons as opposed to heavy ions. Hadrons are preferred for the irradiation of any bulky system, in general, because of their deeper penetration capabilities. General guidelines about the test preparation and procedure for a high-level radiation test ar…
