Structure-dependent tuning of electro-optic and thermoplastic properties in triphenyl groups containing molecular glasses

2015

Abstract The series of seven molecular compounds composed of D–π–A chromophores and triphenylmethyl auxiliary groups were characterized by UV–Vis spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and quantum chemical calculations. Nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of compounds were determined by second harmonic generation measurements in corona poled thin glassy films. The results show that triphenylmethyl auxiliary groups are effective at shielding undesirable dipole interactions in solid phase thus increasing NLO efficiency of materials. Thermal stability up to 108 °C was achieved for a polar order in poled samples.

Tunable coaxial cavity resonator for linear and nonlinear microwave characterization of superconducting wires

2011

We discuss experimental results obtained using a tunable cylindrical coaxial cavity constituted by an outer Cu cylinder and an inner Pb-BSCCO wire. We have used this device for investigating the microwave response of the superconducting wire, both in the linear and nonlinear regimes. In particular, by tuning the different modes of the cavity to make them resonant at exactly harmonic frequencies, we have detected the power emitted by the superconducting inner wire at the second- and third-harmonic frequency of the driving field. The results obtained in the nonlinear regime, whether for the microwave surface impedance or the harmonic emission, are qualitatively accounted for considering inter…

High harmonics generation from structured nanorings

2014

In this work we study the radiation diffused by a fictitious structured nanoring driven by an intense laser field. In our model we consider an electron moving through a cosine-shape potential. The results show that the ring, under particular conditions, emits a wide spectrum of harmonics.

Optically Probed Laser-Induced Field-Free Molecular Alignment

2011

Molecular alignment induced by laser fields has been investigated in research laboratories for over two decades. It led to a better understanding of the fundamental processes at play in the interaction of strong laser fields with molecules, and also provided significant contributions to the fields of high harmonic generation, laser spectroscopy, and laser filamentation. In this chapter, we discuss molecular alignment produced under field-free conditions, as resulting from the interaction of a laser pulse of duration shorter than the rotational period of the molecule. The experimental results presented will be confined to the optically probed alignment of linear as well as asymmetric top mol…

Third-harmonic generation in the skin layer of a hot dense plasma

2003

The third-harmonic generation of a pump wave, resulting from the electron-ion collision frequency dependence on the electric field in the skin layer of a hot dense plasma is investigated. The relation of the current third harmonic with the high-frequency field in the skin layer is established for arbitrary ratios of the electron-ion collision frequency to the field frequency. For arbitrary ratios of these two frequencies, the field structure inside the skin layer is determined, and the field of the wave irradiated by the plasma at tripled frequency, too, is calculated. It has permitted us to find the explicit dependencies of the third-harmonic generation efficiency on the plasma and pump fi…

Harmonic emission at microwave frequencies in YBa2Cu3O7 single crystals near Tc

1998

Abstract Nonlinear microwave emission by YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 single crystals is investigated at temperatures close to T c . Second- and third-harmonic signals are studied as a function of the temperature and input power, for different values of the external magnetic field. The results are discussed in the framework of a phenomenological theory based on the two-fluid model which assumes that both the microwave and static fields perturb the partial concentrations of the normal and condensate fluids. It is suggested that, at temperatures very close to T c , this mechanism is the only one responsible for the harmonic emission by YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 single crystals in the Meissner state. It is also effect…

Lithium niobate step-index waveguides for broadband second harmonic generation

2006

We investigate modal phase matching in lithium niobate step-index waveguides for second harmonic generation. We predict doubling bandwidths as large as 110 nm and show that temperature tuning can compensate for any deviation from the designed film thickness. © World Scientific Publishing Company.
